I can't play videos where the bit depth is 10 bits. The audio comes through fine, but the video appears as a completely black screen. I have several videos where this is the case (some MKVs, some MP4s), and the only thing they have in common is that they're all 10-bit bit depth encoded.
My primary mode of playback is Windows Media Center through XBOX 360 as an extender, but I get the same results when playing on the XBOX, in Windows Media Player on the PC and through WMC on the PC. The videos play fine through Media Player Classic, but that doesn't help me watch them on the XBOX. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know how to fix it? My system is: - Win 7 Ultimate x64 - Shark007 Win7 codecs v3.6.6 - Shark007 Win7 codecs v3.6.6 x64 components The specs on one of the videos is as follows: Code: General |

I've tried both LAV and FFDshow, and it's still not playing in WMP. All other settings are the Shark007 suggested settings. Any idea what else could be wrong? |

RE: 10-bit bit depth encoded videos
for proper MP4 playback you'll also need to disable the Microsoft Video decoder on the SWAP TAB.
If you were to use Metafox from my tools page to placed the untouched contents of those MP4's into MKV's you wouldnt need to disable this. |

Thanks - I can now watch these videos on my PC using the SWAP tab method and I have also tested the Metafox tool and confirmed that this works as well. Metafox worked very quickly! I use GOTsend to do the reverse (MKV to MP4) to play videos more easily on the XBOX but it takes much longer (about 1-2 mins) - do you know a better tool for going this direction? |
