3.7.7 wants me to install Somoto's toolbar
I've used your fantastic codecs solution for over a year now and they are still the best out there, for my needs at least.
But the 3.7.5 release installed SweetIM on my Win7 installation. Pretty much the first dialog button during installation had suddenly become an "install SweetIM" authorization. Later that day, after 12 months of no virus or malware infections, my system started playing up. Windows firewall wouldn't start, Microsoft Security Essentials wouldn't update its definitions or do a scan.I had a SireFef infection. Coincidence this was right after SweetIM was installed? Maybe. I'm not reinstalling 3.7.5 to find out - lucky my Win7 installation wasn't hosed the first time. Just downoaded 3.7.7 to find a licence agreement I need to accept between me and Somoto. Their hard-to-remove browser toolbar/hijacker. And I *MUST* accept the licence and allow Somoto to screw up my Win7 installation and browser. If I don't, no codecs - at least via the installer. I get that this trojan shovelware is being pushed as a mandatory pre-requirement because it pays your bills. I have no probem donating if I can then avoid this installation baggage. If I can't avoid these extra little surprises by donating, then, for me, you've killed your product. As ever, thanks for your time and I really do hope there's a solution to this. |
