3GP Garbled Sound - Windows Vista 64 - Windows Live Movie Maker
Hi Shark007,
Thank you for your codec pack. Clearly it is a big project. I downloaded it for one reason only... and that's to edit 3GP movies from my iPhone on Windows Live Movie Maker. In the past I'd used FFDShow and somehow got it to work. My system later crashed and I had to reinstall the OS... So I was back to square 1 with the codecs. This time I installed FFDShow and couldn't get it to work. So then I discovered the Shark007 Vista Codec Pack. I installed it, and Windows Live Movie Maker will open the 3GP files, but the sound was loud/garbled/noise... not just for 3GP but also for AVI, MP4 and WMV files that used to play just fine. So I uninstalled FFD. Then I checked the Audio settings in Shark007 to "Enable Audio normalization" in FFDShow audio, and "Support MOD audio files" and "Support M4A containing ALAC". Now in Windows Live Movie Maker 1) .mwv videos play fine again. No Problems. 2) AVI videos won't open at all. (No Video, No Sound) 3) MP4 videos open with video but the sound is loud/garbled. 3) 3GP videos open with video but the sound is loud/garbled. I really hate asking for help when clearly I have no idea what I'm doing. I may have messed this up beyond repair. But please help if you can. My basic question... What should the settings be to play these files in Windows Live Movie Maker? Thank you! |

Should I reinstall? Can I tweak some settings first? I didn't mention before, I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 |

It turns out that WMP will open all of the files, but Media Center will not open 3GP or AVI. Very odd. snafu. Suggestions? Are the file associations different in WMP vs. Media Center? |

RE: 3GP Garbled Sound - Windows Vista 64 - Windows Live Movie Maker
OK Shark007.
Thanks for your help. Apparently these files will now open in WMP and in Media Center after installation of the 64Bit extension. I've never used Media Center before... and finding files in there is like thumbing through the phone book. I don't understand the layout. And, unfortunately, I still can't open the files in Windows Live Movie Maker. Man... that's frustrating... I've gone in a complete circle over the past 5 or 6 hours. I appreciate your time. If you ever feel so inclined as to take a look at Windows Live Movie Maker, please let me know. There are a lot of people out there (including me) scratching their heads to figure a way to import 3GP files to edit movies taken on their cell phones. Most people use a video converter... but I see that as a silly interim step, since I know for a fact (since I've done it before) that there is a way to tell Windows Live Movie Maker to open 3GP files after you have the codecs installed. Hopefully I'll figure it out again. It has something to do with setting the file associations somewhere in the Windows Program or User directory. (Oh what I'd give for a photographic memory!) |
