5.1 surround stream
i have a whs 2011 which i use to stream my movies and i decided to try this codec pack to see if i could enable mkv playback and also enable 5.1 audio.
I have succeeded with the mkv playback but i am having difficulty enabling it to stream 5.1, it always steams 2 channels, the video is encoded in 5.1. Any help would be aprreciated |

RE: 5.1 surround stream
I am unfamiliar with the playback capabilities of the PS3 unit.
I would think you problem is here. My codecs are for PC playback, not device playback although I do include the DivX Media Foundation splitter to assist with MKV playback on such devices but I do not own such a device for testing. |

I know that the ps3 plays the format because if i use ps3 media server it actually plays the media in 5.1 but the software is buggy and requires alot of cpu power. anyways i tried having ffdshow play the audio for me in windows media player but the icon never appears on the bottom, i was wondering if that has anything to due with it |

RE: 5.1 surround stream
the PS3 has its own decoders and does not use the PC installed decoders. The only thing the PC does is 'split' the media file into its RAW components and sends these to the PS3 for further processing (playback). It is possible that the file you are attempting to play contains multiple audio streams and the PS3 is defaulting to the 2.0 track.
you can check the contents of media files using the button on the Misc TAB, [Analyze a media file] |

RE: 5.1 surround stream
you could try disabling the Microsoft Audio decoder on the SWAP TAB to eliminate it from the decoder chain.
