RE: About Icaros
Hey Xanashi! Any news for a new build?
Btw as for the folder thumbnails not generating. I was able to isolate the cause: It happens if thumbnailing fails the first time. On Subsequent even successful thumbnailing the folder thumbails will still be missing. The solution is to clean icon cache and make sure thumbnailing works for the first time. This happens due to the fact that there is a custom file type that failed to generate. So basically if this pesky custom filetype bug is fixed all other bugs will be too. OS: Windows 7 Utlimate x64 SP1 (Build 7601). Codecs: Haali Splitter, LAV filters (latest), MPC-HC, madVR, Reclock. |

RE: About Icaros
So has there been any issue with v1.3.0 and does it work with LAV filter .42?
Just curious before I update. |

Good news actually, Paladin77 :-) But I'll get back to that very soon. As I said, I've just got home today and will need to perform a bit more testing, after that I'll write you a proper reply. Sure, everything should be working as expected. :-) But I would recommend holding off a little bit, since I know nevcairiel will have another new build ready soon. OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 |

RE: About Icaros
Well, I decided to update it anyways since my media player got an update as well. So far so good, haven't found any problems yet.
Thanks for putting so much time into this. It's very much appreciated. |

RE: About Icaros
Today I have an early Christmas present ready for the beta testers. :-)
But first the good news. I spoke to nevcairiel about the parallel loading issue, and he came up with a great solution, that prevents LAV from initializing more than once after load. This fixes the issue we've discussed in the previous couple of posts, Paladin77. ;-) The fix is implemented in the latest LAV release 0.43, which can be downloaded from the official LAV thread. Now about the present. I have recently implemented a brand new Matroska Cue Parser into the Icaros Thumbnail Provider. This brings a couple of improvements to mkv thumbnail generation. To explain very shortly what it does, Icaros now grabs every mkv thumbnail from the nearest keyframe of the user provided offset. By doing this, thumbnail generation speed for mkvs, is now ~25-200% faster than before. At least for me, it is. ;-) It also improves thumbnailing for incomplete mkvs, which now has a higher possibility of generating non-black thumbnails. There is a small drawback though. Because of the new grabbing logic, your thumbnails might not be exactly the same as with 1.3.0, even though you have set the same offset. You can get 1.3.1 here: Icaros_v131_beta.zip (Size: 229.22 KB / Downloads: 187)
Icaros 1.3.1 should only be used with LAV 0.43+, as it also contains an important mkv keyframe seeking fix. Feedback is as always welcome. I hope you'll all have a Merry Christmas! OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 |

RE: About Icaros
Merry Christmas Xanashi. leeched I mean downloaded and in the process of testing.
EDIT I can confirm that mkv thumbnails are generated much faster (around 25-30% and even faster with encoded vids). FLV files didn't generate except after a reboot. Could be a fluke will continue testing. But so far so good ;-) Thanks Xanashi and Merry Christmas! OS: Windows 7 Utlimate x64 SP1 (Build 7601). Codecs: Haali Splitter, LAV filters (latest), MPC-HC, madVR, Reclock. |

RE: About Icaros
Hi Xanashi,
I have to says "very good job!". Your tool solve a problem I have since a year or more, so many thanks. I'll recomand your software all around me ![]() I'm personally involved in the developpement of a free C# open source media software, and we use Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.Shell.ShellThumbnail object to retrive thumbnails and display them in the software. It works for cached thumbnails, but it fails when we try to call the methods to generate the thumbnails, because most of the methods are not supported. I have this error message : "The current ShellObject does not have a valid thumbnail handler or there was a problem in extracting the thumbnail for this specific shell object." , and it seems generated by this code : https://log2console.svn.codeplex.com/svn...umbnail.cs (see at the bottom of the page) Maybe Icaros don't have the "IShellItemImageFactory" implementation (and I'm not even sure it's the problem btw) ? Do you think you could implement the needed methods to make you software compatible with this API ? Thanks in advance. Smeulf. |

RE: About Icaros
Oh, another idea came in my mind: is it possible to add an option to use the cover.jpg or cover.png MKV embeded file instead of a piece of the video ? I know it's not the main goal of the tool, but it could be a nice to have IMO.
Cheers. Smeulf. |
