Another MKV issue - No sound - has subs
Scenario
I switched over to Shark007 about a week ago to get MKVs to play in Mediabrowser on the HTPC. The main reason was to keep track of episodes and keep everything familiar for everyone that uses it. The problem I was some MKVs weren't playing. Installing Shark007 seemed to remedy the issue, however every once in awhile it starts and episode then says media center can't find the file - but I just have to restart. So all was well. However now one specific series that played isn't playing correct. It plays the recap section fine, but when it gets to the intro and credits at the start of the episode the sound is shutoff and there are Danish or German subtitles. Solution I've tried reset all (both 32 and 64), the suggested settings, and also forced Haali to English an no Subtitles. However this doesn't fix it, I know this is probably an issue with the files, however prior to the converting to Shark007 these did play. I am on the following system: AMD Phenom 8650 8 GB of RAM Windows 7 - x64 I ran the file through and got the following (however this initially correct?, but would it see the change 3:00 minutes into file?): General Unique ID: 329496058936018254030352984118982760816 (0xF7E2A1F51AB8166AA382DDF831CA5970) Complete name: Format : Matroska Format version : Version 1 File size : 1.46 GiB Duration : 54mn 7s Overall bit rate : 3 856 Kbps Encoded date : UTC 2009-07-20 03:40:24 Writing application : mkvmerge v2.4.0 ('Fumbling Towards Ecstasy') built on Nov 7 2008 17:24:23 Writing library : libebml v0.7.8 + libmatroska v0.8.1 Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L3.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 3 frames Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 54mn 7s Bit rate : 3 468 Kbps Width : 1 280 pixels Height : 720 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 23.976 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.157 Stream size : 1.28 GiB (88%) Writing library : x264 core 67 r1162M f7bfcfa Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=3 / deblock=1:-2:-1 / analyse=0x3:0x113 / me=umh / subme=6 / psy_rd=1.0:0.0 / mixed_ref=0 / me_range=16 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=1 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=6 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / mbaff=0 / bframes=3 / b_pyramid=1 / b_adapt=1 / b_bias=0 / direct=1 / wpredb=1 / keyint=240 / keyint_min=24 / scenecut=40 / rc=2pass / bitrate=3468 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=10 / qpmax=51 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / pb_ratio=1.30 / aq=1:1.00 Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No Audio ID : 2 Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Mode extension : CM (complete main) Format settings, Endianness : Big Codec ID : A_AC3 Duration : 54mn 7s Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 384 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : Front: L R Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Bit depth : 16 bits Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 149 MiB (10%) Default : Yes Forced : No Let me know if there is anything that would force it to use English and no Subtitles for this file, but so far all the settings I have run keeps it going over to no sound. Try passing those problem files through Metafox. (it can be downloaded from my tools page)

RE: Another MKV issue - No sound - has subs
Interesting... well that fixed the subtitle problem, however still no audio after the first 1:30 or so when they switch over to opening credits portion.
I assume the analysis wouldn't find the change if there was an audio change when the MKV was created, so if I chopped off the first part that is ok and did another analysis it might output something different? Thanks for the help and prompt response. |

On the SWAP TAB, disable the Microsoft Audio decoder.

No dice - I tried it in the current configuration and then reset all and disabled in both again to no avail.

Hi Notpalc,
What player are you using? Have you tried different splitters for mkv? *** If it does not help, probably a sample of the file would be needed. Windows 8 x64 / i5 750 / AMD HD 5850 / Benq XL 2410T / MPC-BE / 32bit Advanced Codecs |

I didn't have trouble with these before the switch to shark007 - I have now traced it to a batch of episodes. I'll see if I can get a sample posted - thanks for the response. |

RE: Another MKV issue - No sound - has subs
I got it resolved by a simple switch in the audio from analog to digital (DTS) now the entire file plays correctly.
Thanks for the help and quick responses. |
