Ok, now I have the exact same problem as the orginal post after I disabled uac and hit reset settings in shark and then made my changes back to use ffdshow for aac and then encode on fly to ac3... it will error out when I try to render the file.

So, the fact that I have completely rebuilt my pc from scratch and installed the shark packages with nothing else installed tells me perhaps I have a problem with my mp4 aac files??? However, I'm almost certain they worked before and I got 5.1 audio. So I'm not sure why I can no longer select ac3 encoding in ffdshow.

Does anyone have a mp4 file with aac audio that you know you can encode on the fly to ac3 so I can test? I really don't know what else to do at this point! It has to be either the updated shark codec pack causing issues (back when I "think" I had it working, I was using 2.x version) OR it has to be my mp4 aac files which would mean I never really had it working in the first place.

If anyone has a small sample of a mp4 with aac audio that converts to ac3 ok on the fly, please let me know. I would love to try it out!

Well, I have not had any luck. I downloaded another mp4 with aac audio and it doesn't work either. I posted the same problem over at the ffdshow sourceforge forums... https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow...ic/5184338

What is interesting is that someone else had the same problem, but they said it has since been fixed....

So, I downloaded the very latest ffdshow... just came out yesterday I think. However, I have the same problem.

Hopefully someone can resolve this. I have a feeling I'm not the only one. I swear this started when I went from Shark 2.x to the latest 3.6. Good thing is in doing so I fix a problem with AVI's and 5.1 audio. Problem now is what has been discussed in this thread. Too bad the weather has been nice here!!!... I've been inside for days trying to figure this one out!

So I got to thinking deep on this one!... what changed because I was 99% certain it was working before. What changed was I downloaded Shark 3.6 going from version 2.x. So I thought, ok, I narrowed the issue down to the ac3 encoding option which is in ffdshow. So, I went to ffdshow's site and downloaded an older version... ffdshow_rev3190_20100109_clsid to be exact. Guess what... it freak'n works now!!! I'm so excited! I had to have a drink in celebration!

Now, hopefully what fixed the avi 5.1 problem in the shark 3.6 codec's still works. I think it will because I don't think it uses ffdshow... it uses lav.

Well, I kinda spoke too soon. My issue described in this thread is indeed fixed... see above post. It dealth with a newer version of ffdshow not allowing ac3 encoding on the fly to work. It would crash.

Now I have a new problem in which I will probably start a new thread.
The issue is not being able to play mp4 files in Windows 7 Media Center 64 bit. It says codec misssing. I have tried LAV and ffdshow. No matter how I have it setup, it doesn't work. I have also tried disabling M$ stuff on teh swap tab.

Any ideas?
