I downloaded a video that is .AVI. It is MP4 with XVID. I can't seem to get it to play in Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit ultimate.
I tried Shark Codecs Regular/64-bit with Reset ALL and with Suggested settings but I get an error message whenever I try and play the AVI. I tried an Divx test program and it shows 0 errors on the file. I can also play the file in VLC. Any ideas? |

RE: Can't get XVID MP4 AVI to play
disable the DMO codecs on the SWAP TAB.

Tried that. I still get an error message from Windows Media Player. WMP encountered a problem while playing the file.
Steps I did: 32-bit as admin and then 64-bit: Reset All Changed Audio to Bitstream TrueHD Checked the Disable DMO codecs. Attached is a pic of the codec info from the file: |

are you starting playback from the Library? (this seems so from your description)
Try double-clicking the file from an Windows Explorer view. If that works, using the button on the Misc TAB to [Rebuild WMP Library] will most likely correct your issue. |

(this seems so from your description) I am double clicking the file from Windows Explorer, which starts Windows Media Player. Then gives the error. I haven't gotten to WMC this morning. Although last night WMC was also giving an error. Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling the codecs? with a reboot in between or something? |

RE: Can't get XVID MP4 AVI to play
re-install and reboots will not change anything.
your next best bet is to try using a different AVI splitter on the AVI~RM TAB. The gabest splitter will often work when others fail because it has better handling of poorly constructed files. If the gabest splitter does work, you can also try using the dropbox on the Misc TAB to repair an avi file. To use that dropbox, the app must be started without admin privileges. The repair creates a new file that should work OK with the default Microsoft splitter. |

RE: Can't get XVID MP4 AVI to play
I use the LAV-splitter for "AVI~RM -> AVI Playback".
The "64 bit Settings -> Config -> FFDshow Video Config -> Codecs" there may be the following bug: AMD A6-3650 with HD6530 graphics * XP MCE 2005, Windows 7 x86 + x64 + 8 x64 * PowerDVD 12 + 13 |

RE: Can't get XVID MP4 AVI to play
I tried everything listed above. No Luck..
So I uninstalled both Shark007 (32 and 64). and rebooted When I rebooted...the AVI worked without shark007. Then I installed Shark 32-bit and then 64-bit. Everything still worked... I used Reset All settings... with just the Audio set to Bitstream TrueHD. I am able to play AVI with stereo and AAC 5.1 bitstreaming. So must have been something funky that cleared out when I rebooted. Should I bother changing anything else? Like using Shark Recommended settings? or using Assassin's settings? Bitstreaming seems to work, at least for 5.1. I mostly use the system for Window Media Center recording/playback/watching live TV, watching streaming audio, but occasional DVD/BR Rips... |
