Can't get audio to channels working correctly
Hello, Been a fairly long user of this great codec pack and couldn't imagine not using it.
However I seem to be having problems when it comes to multiple audio files being played and the output being locked to a certain number of channels and one or two other things. Before I bebin here is my set up. Windows 7 64bit AMD HDMI Audio (radeon hd 6950) receiver LG home theater HB906TA Max channels 6, HDCP Supported, Bit Depths 16, 20, 24 supported formats DTS Audio, Dolby Digital. http://www.lg.com/ca_en/tv-audio-video/h...B906TA.jsp I have a HDMI cable going directly from my graphics card to my receiver which works great. It sends turns my tv into a second monitor and sends audio as well. Everything works, not great, but it works. My optimal set up would be what I'm guessing is setting everything to be encoded and sent to the receiver as 5.1 surround pcm 3/2/1 regardless if it's mono, stereo, or full surround. Expanding the stereo to rear speakers when applicable (preferably with an easy off switch for that so If I want only silent channels while playing stereo sent to the rear I can do that) The problem is I have tried changing many settings and different profiles for the codecs where I have gotten close to what I'm looking for. The biggest problem to arise is when I'm playing a stereo sound file or even a game with stereo it can lock the receiver into a pcm 2/0/1 I believe. where it breaks playing any files with surround. I've even had this happening with some games where instead of playing surround it gets stuck in only 2 channels One such game is Arma II, I cannot get 5.1 to play at all. With some reading I was able to find someone say to get the surround to work you must force 5.1 using drivers. If someone can help me get even close to my optimized set up I would appreciate it. I know most of it can be done I just can't seem to get it to work all together. I will uninstall, both win7 codecs and the 64 add on. Re-install and press reset all and start working from square one if someone has the time to help. Thanks, ~Jeff |

RE: Can't get audio to channels working correctly
1st, make sure that under your active device in Control Panel | Sound that the speaker configuration is set to stereo.
in bott apps, press [Reset All] make one selection on the Audio TAB of both settings applications, choose the TrueHD/DTS HD-MA... selection in the upper right the left side is automated and will set itself to Same as input There is a Firmware update available for your AVR, maybe this will help solve your issues. |

RE: Can't get audio to channels working correctly
Thank you for the help, doing only that got me started on what appears to be the correct path for getting my preferred set up. and checking for the firmware update for my receiver was completely unexpected and shows to me you really go above and beyond with helping.
After much playing around, disabling microsoft decoder, using the suggested settings and a few other changes almost all surround 5.1 sounds appear to be getting streamed directly. Only one thing is I was unable to get just normal stereo files to be bit streamed, which is fine I don't think there is a way around that. So I moved onto trying to get stereo only files to expand to surround. I have ffdshow set up to expand with the mixer and it works for mp3's, flac, and other audio files which are played directly. However I had to set the speaker configuration to 5.1 in windows sound settings despite you saying to set it to 2.0, is that going to affect anything. The only thing I don't have working from what I can see are audio files from things such as youtube are not being expanded into surround do you know if there is a different setting for that? And the receiver still gets stuck in 2.0 every so often (pretty sure the problem is from the computer side of things) I'm able to refresh it and get it working again by cycling through 2.0, quad, and 5.1 in the speaker set up with windows sound. |
