Can't get rewind & fast forward working
Hi Lads. I can't get rewind & fast forward to work in WMC using the keyboard or remote. Come to think of it it never worked with vlc either. only play, pause & stop. Pressing the skip button forwards in 30sec jumps but holding it down makes it fly to the end. I only heard about media control last night but still no luck. Do I need to set things some where else first? Remote rewind & forward works for tv no prob.
I am new to this codec stuff and I'm feeling swamped with all the settings so sorry if it a noob thing. I have searched the forum and web with no luck. Just some old 2007 posts with dead links. If someone could point me in the right direction of a guide it would be great. Being my first post I should say thanks to Shark and all others involved in dev work. When Media Center is set up properly it the business. PVR with XBMC is still to much for me. Setup is a nightmare for my skill lvl. Cheers.. I'm using shark007 375 and 375 64bit Windows 7 64bit ATI HD6450 Media browser with no external player Media control |

RE: Can't get rewind & fast forward working
Media Control (MCP) will only work with FFDshow-DXVA or FFDshow Video Decoder, see my corresponding settings with Shark007 3.7.2-3.7.5 for the use of MCP 6.0.14 and subtitle display:

I'll go the ffdshow direction so. I was on your post late last night and went the LAV direction because I got it into my head that it is better even though I know nothing about any of them!! If you don't mind me asking, Which ffdshow should I be going for if you DXVA or video? "off topic" I have noticed serious pixelation in dark scenes with both xvid and x264 at the moment. It seems to get worse in stages with x264's. It looks like like it rescans every 5 seconds or so about 4 or 5 times and then reset to best quality and start again. Should I be tinkering with the X264 encoder settings as well. |

RE: Can't get rewind & fast forward working
The FFDshow-DXVA settings are good for weak systems and / or low energy consumption and run with ATI graphics cards HD5XXX/6XXX very well.
The FFDshow video settings run with all systems (grafic cards). I see with my ATI HD5750 or HD6530 no noticeable difference in picture quality and no "serious pixelation in dark scenes" with latest AMD Catalyst 12.6. PS: What are you going with the X264-encoder? I'm using an an AMD athlon X2 240e with 4 gigs of ram & a 2tb raid array but I guess the cpu and gpu are the only two things that count for encoding. Do you think the 240e the problem?? I came accross the X264 encoder settings last night after going through your post. I turned down the Ratefactor towards the higher quality. I have no idea what I'm doing in there though & I have not tested the results. My wife has my watching revenge season 1 the last 3 days which I only have in xvid. True blood X264's is where I have really noticed the pixelation. Lots of dark scenes. So breraking bad & true blood tomorrow night will be the test. I have two screens running off the HTPC. A samsung smart tv which is so so and an dlp projector in the other room. The pixelation happens on both so I'm thinking its the Drivers / encoders & not the displays. My samsung has a lot of picture settings though. I have tried to turn them all off but who knows when it comes to this tv. It puts my onkyo receiver to shame on the complication scale. |

RE: Can't get rewind & fast forward working
The "favorable" ATI HD6450 with 64 bit memory interface is not very good choice for the control of two display devices or the control of large full-HD displays and an AII X2 240e is a bit "weak" performance for a HTPC, but surely just enough!
But the hardware should not be your problem! AMD A6-3650 with HD6530 graphics * XP MCE 2005, Windows 7 x86 + x64 + 8 x64 * PowerDVD 12 + 13 |
