Can't get xvid/divx + h264 + DVD + live tv + subtitles to work at the same time
Hi everyone,
I've been a happy 7MC user for quite some time. But since most releases started to be distributed in h264 I have been experiencing some problems. Until a couple months ago I only used ffdshow and media control installed on my 7mc (x86) and this setup allowed me to see all my media needs. But in the past months the new releases started being distributed in h264 and since I need subtitles to display I searched for a solution and found Shark007's pack. Since this is a dedicated media center I changed to a x86 edition of Windows (seems easier to configure) but still having some problems. What I'm trying to achieve - a Media Center that can handle: - xvid/divx files with subtitles - mp4 (h264) files with subtitles - DVD playback - live TV - media control (only for FF and RW functions on xvid/divx and h264) For the life of me I can't get the configuration set to enable all of the above at the same time. I've spent countless hours trying different options and reading entire threads on this forum but... If I get xvid and h264 with subtitles working - the live tv and dvd get broken. If I get DVD working - live TV stutters. You get the idea. So first question: Am I supposed to be able to configure Shark007's pack and get the above working at the same time? If so could you give me some pointers? And if not what would you suggest as as alternative? What I've tryed: Reset all configs, set suggested configs, disable WMF and DMO, configure all formats to use ffdshow, configure ffdshow to handle subtitles, enabled alt live tv, ffdshow to handle VC1. Thank you for your time. EDIT By Shark007 The settings offered in post #40 have now been revised to properly respond to this question . |

Because I cannot upload anything at the moment here, I beg you to read this post in the German MCE forum. I have written for you in English! Answer please here, not in the German thread! Hi, This looks interesting, can't wait to get home tonight to try your suggested settings out. Will give feedback then. Thank you so much. |

RE: Can't get xvid/divx + h264 + DVD + live tv + subtitles to work at the same time
OMG OMG OMG
It's alive! ALIVE!!! I'm more excited then a school girl after the first kiss!! Thank you so much HD-FALSE, I've followed your guide and trembling with anticipation I played a divx/xvid file - sound ok, image ok, subtiles ok and Media Control (FF and RW) ok. Then I tryed a MP4 file, same thing ![]() I then poped in a DVD and it played without any problem. Last check - live tv. Clicked on a channel image shows, followed by sound... 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, no visible artifacts nor stuttering!! I can't believe the hours I've spent reading posts and threads, finally I have it working!! I will be testing your settings in the next days to confirm that they "stick". WAF (wife approval factor) on the Media Center just rose to acceptable levels again ![]() Out of curiosity I will be testing your guide with my x64 laptop (media center for vacations) and see if I can get it to work too. Once again - you have my sincerest thanks, I can't express in plain simple words how much joy (and sanity) you've brought back into my "media life" ))Cheers |

I use the Shark007 codec packs since 2009 and have been doing the "marketing" in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (mce-community.de) and there display subtitles and audio track selection are for some users very important.
However, I only user and found out much by trial and error. I am pleased that it worked for you too! Edit: It would be for me very interesting to know which graphics card your computer uses (INTEL, NVIDIA or ATI)!? RE: Can't get xvid/divx + h264 + DVD + live tv + subtitles to work at the same time
With W7CP and X64C 3.6.2 there are no more DVS subtitles when using the FFDshow video decoders.
The only remedy against this is the exchange of ffdshow.ax from X64C W7CP and 3.6.1: AMD A6-3650 with HD6530 graphics * XP MCE 2005, Windows 7 x86 + x64 + 8 x64 * PowerDVD 12 + 13 |

RE: Can't get xvid/divx + h264 + DVD + live tv + subtitles to work at the same time
Some user have been asked me, the obove linked post from www.mce-community.de, to post here.
I want to try this, even if not all video formats work without DS Filter Tweaker. Here my SHARK007 W7CP and X64C 3.6.1-settings with FFDshow DXVA decoders for Windows 7 x86 and x64: These settings work with ATI graphics cards HD5/6XXX very well. With INTEL Sandy Bridge HD-Grafik (HD2/3XXX) may be not, then is the FFDshow video decoder without DXVA an alternative: PS: It is extremely important to the settings specified in the order ("SWAP" starting) and to carry out control in the same order again! And you should be using "Reset All" and "Shark007 SUGGESTET setttings" to begin! In Windows 7 x64 always need to configure W7CP and X64C, also if only MC7 as 64 bit application is used! This settings have no problems with MC7 Live-TV, because the MS-Video and Audio-Decoders are used for MC7 Live-TV! If you want to display subtitles in MP4 videos also, this is only possible with the following change: Media Control Plugin (MCP 6.0.XX): The above settings work well with Media Control Plugin (MCP 6.0.9-6.0.11): Under "FFDshow configuration", it is perhaps necessary to activate the "Apply recommended configuration"! The Media Control Plugin website with MCP 6.0.9 is down, but there is Media Control 6.0.13 for Windows 7 32 and 64 Bit Edit: With W7CP and X64C 3.6.2-3.6.8 there are no more DVS subtitles if using the FFDshow video decoders: I therefore recommend the use of W7CP and X64C 3.6.1! Archive for older versions: - Windows 7 Codec Pack (W7CP) - X64 Components addon (X64C) Edtit1: With W7CP and X64C 3.6.9 and newer versions SHAR007 has succeeded, the lack of support from DirectVobSub (DVS) subtitles with FFDshow Video and in FFDshow DXVA decoders to restore with the direct use of DirectVobSub! To do this under "Config -> Subtitle Control -> DirectVobSub" and are activated manually also under "Config -> FFDshow Video and FFDshow DXVA -> Subtitles". Settings with FFDshow DXVA: Settings with FFDshow Video Decoder: But even with LAV video decoder under "H264" subtitles now possible, but no use of MCP: Edit2: Here is a list of videos or video and audio formats, that I use mainly, to test the above settings: Edit2: The new 3.7.8 Settings you can find here: http://shark007.net/forum/Thread-Can-t-g...7#pid28797 AMD A6-3650 with HD6530 graphics * XP MCE 2005, Windows 7 x86 + x64 + 8 x64 * PowerDVD 12 + 13 |

RE: Can't get xvid/divx + h264 + DVD + live tv + subtitles to work at the same time
Hi all,
Forgot to post back on my experience with x64. It also works as expected ![]() Only thing I noticed was some instability with ffdshow DXVA when FF or RW (Media Control). So I used your suggestion to revert back to plain ffdshow and so far no more Media Center crashes (on both x86 and x64). Seems I'll be sticking with 3.6.0, it works ok, and I don't have to go through the extra steps with 3.6.1 or 3.6.2 that require overwriting files. Once again thank you so much for your precious help

Thanks for the feedback!
![]() Then there is only a question to the systems (HTPC and notebook): Quote:It would be very interesting for me to know which graphics card your computer uses (Intel, NVIDIA or ATI)? AMD A6-3650 with HD6530 graphics * XP MCE 2005, Windows 7 x86 + x64 + 8 x64 * PowerDVD 12 + 13 |
