DVD won't play using HDMI sound thru AVR
I just purchased a Pioneer VSX-821-k receiver and when I try to play a DVD using Media Brower it plays 9 sec and stops with a can't play DVD codex error.
I have a HIS Radeon 5670 card connected using the HDMI to the Pioneer and from the Pioneer to a Zenith 720P HDMI input. I have set the audio to use HDMI as the default. I get standard windows sounds no problem and can play a WMA using Media Center. When I change the sound back to the RocketFish 7.1 PCI interface the DVD plays fine. Haven't bothered to hook up the Toslink from the RockFish to the Pioneer but I assume I would hear audio. I installed Shark007 and selected administrator defaults. Then I set the Windows swap to use PDVD12 instead Windows default for MPEG2 codec in DirectShow players. Still no joy. Windows 7 premium, Intel 2180, 2 GB with no customization of Media Center (FFDShow, etc). Any ideas? Thanks I'm using Win 7 Home Premium 64bit. Should I be using the X64 components? |

RE: DVD won't play using HDMI sound thru AVR
Install current drivers from amd.com (12.2)
After updating the drivers, In Control Panel | Sound, select the AMD HDMI Output device. There is no need to selct PDVD12 for MPEG2 - the Microsoft decoder will work just fine. If you want proper thumbnails for all filetypes in Explorer views, install the x64Components. |

Thanks again for the fast response. I had tried both a reboot and reseting the defaults after installing the x64 components. No joy. I did a search and found a link about HDMI and the DVD error. Seems that there is a bug and windows configuration for the HDMI sound drivers needs to be set at stereo and then 5.1 in Media Center. I ran through the speaker setup changing from Toslink to HDMI and 5.1. Now works like a champ. http://experts.windows.com/frms/windows_...33853.aspx I searched and only found a reference to the event logs where there's a media center section. Mostly about updates. Oh, well. Van |
