DirectVobSub causes audio sync problems
I have an ION HTPC (ASUS AT3N7A-I). I swapped hard drives in my HTPC. After I reinstalled W7 I installed 3.4.0 (x86 and x64). I then installed CoreAVC 3.0.1. I followed the guide on the digitallifestyle.com. However whenever I play a mkv that has subs an audio sync problem happens. I tested with my copies of Dead Snow and Avatar. In addition to the audio sync neither video ever displays the subs. This is occuring when the srt file is external. If it is contained in the mkv it appears to play fine. Both of these played fine before so I know it is a codec issue. Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Internal subs are broken as well. I tried disabling LAV audio, resetting defaults, uninstalling and reinstalling. All result in audio sync issues. The only way I can get it to play is if I disable sub control, which is not acceptable. |

RE: DirectVobSub causes audio sync problems
forget CoreAVC. It isnt all that - thankfully it was only $15 wasted.
If you insist on using CoreAVC - there is no other subtitle options for you. On the H264 TAB, set 'Use FFDshow's codec' which will auto use ffdhow for subtitles. |

When I get home tonight I'll do a reset all and set the codecs to FFDshow DXVA then, correct? |

RE: DirectVobSub causes audio sync problems
Settings with FFDshow DXVA-Decoder, see here!
The use of DirectVobSub switched off the DXVA video acceleration. |

The video codec is MPEG4/ISO/AVC from mkvinfo. I have other mkv's that use the same video with no problems. If I switch to MPC-HC they play fine but then if I watch an HD movie with subtitles DirectVobSub and MPC causes me to lose the hardware acceleration. I've watched these all before and so I know the file is good. Any ideas why this file is causing problems? Well 51 episodes if you count the entire series. |

RE: DirectVobSub causes audio sync problems
up until just a few months ago, all AVC (h264) files were 8bit.
The files that are exhibiting problems are most likely 10bit. I suggest you use MPC-Homecinema from my Tools page and turn off subtitles on the Config TAB of the Settings Application. Doing so will give you proper playback of these files with subtitles using the internal subtitle renderer of the player. |

Is there some kind of information I can give you from a working file and a non-working file that can help you figure out why? I like using WMC and would like to continue doing so. |

RE: DirectVobSub causes audio sync problems
Have you tried setting a different splitter on the MKV TAB? Try the LAV splitter.
Another possible solution is to set 'Use FFDshow's codec' on the H264 TAB which will in turb auto-set ffdshow to handle the subs. |

This show with FFDshow or LAV plays the audio fine but no video (or subs). Using MPC-HC codec gives me subs via vsfilter but then no acceleration for everything else. With FFDshow set even MPC-HC doesn't work (regular version not yours). With CoreAVC +shark007 all my videos play well with acceleration. The only thing that is broken is it refuses to load external subs. So if you know of a way to fix that I would be grateful. I have tried Haali and vsfilter autoload is set to yes. LAV splitter doesn't want to play them either. And I have used mkvmerge to place the subs inside the mkv but then the audio is off. |
