Firefox Default program settings being wrecked by installer

its quite weird as well as i assume the installer sets the same registry entries for file types regardless of the browser installed since its related to videos. what else is weird and disturbing is that both inside and outside of vmware i am able to reproduce this issue and installing FF 3 seems to be not affected and remedys the issue. any thoughts on the cause would be appreciated.
