I have run around in circles - I need a little help (please)
I am going to sound like an idiot here....but I have uninstalled, reinstalled everything about 10 times, read all of the help guides and have a few basic questions. Thank you for any help that you can offer...seriously. I just cannot for the life of me get MKV files to play correctly. I have gone from choppy video to black screens to files needed errors etc.
1) I am running Win 7 64 bit. Is it safe to assume my Win Media Center is definitely 64bit? If not, how can I check to see if it is 32 or 64? - I am guessing that many people run 32bit WMC on a 64bif OS - Should I do that? How? (please be basic, I have checked for an 'About' etc...not listed anywhere. 2) Besides a complete re-install of OS, what is the cleanest best way to determine which codecs are installed, and uninstall all of them? I have seen people reference going to control panel, selecting uninstall prgs, and clicking 'Multimedia'...I do not see that option anywhere. 3) Are mkv files >4gig really a problem? if so, how should I deal with em? 4) If I am running 64bit WMC, do I set up 32 bit as well? Exactly the same as the 64 bit options. I am running win 7 64 bit, hardwired LAN, Network is optimized according to Windows Media Center Extender (Full green bars). I have experienced every issued known...haha. I REALLY want this to work on my Xbox. I also have a ps3 but the PS3 media server tends to be flakey and constant Cinavia errors...Thank you again for some direction. |

The 32bit Settings Application affects playback in 32bit players. If you arent using a 32bit player (the default WMP is 32bit) - nothing needs to be 'setup' other than the innitial run as an Administrator. I will try to get it fixed for the 370 release |

Thank you for your response...On a side note, should I expect a poor video quality (non HD) out of the Xbox from your experience? (compared to the Ps3) Just trying to choose my battles for now. (in other words, should I keep fighting to stay on Xbox platform or deal with Cinavia Sound issues (but perfect video) with my ps3? Thank you again!! I am sincerely trying to learn this stuff!!

RE: I have run around in circles - I need a little help (please)
One last question: I want to again uninstall everything (all codecs) before installing version 359...Should I do this before uninstalling the current 3.69 version? I assume this is within the Shark software. (thx)

Do not concern yourself with the existing codecs on your system unless you are having playbck problems with 32bit players. Very few 64bit codecs exist to begin with and unless you specifically installed a 64bit codec, there is nothing to worry about.
