IcarosPropertyHandler.dll + WLXCodecHost.exe = 25% CPU
#1
Windows 7 32bit
  • installed Movie Maker (from Live Essentials).
  • imported a bunch of DV AVI files from my camcorder
  • noticed that CPU usage remained stable at 25% with no apparent activity
  • found the guilty process: WLXCodecHost.exe
  • used Resource Manager and found the process had a handle for IcarosPropertyHandler.dll
  • Resource Manager also reported WLXCodecHost.exe as having handles for the aforementioned AVI files, however with almost zero I/O activity
  • waited for about one hour but CPU usage was not improving
  • disabled Icaros in Shark007 Settings
  • problem solved

I believe that the CPU usage was far above what is probably needed given such very low disk activity.

Hi colemar,

This could be one of two problems, either there is a parsing bug in the Icaros Property Handler,
or the WLXCodecHost wont take no for an answer, and continuously request
further information even though an error was returned.

If it's a parsing bug, the absolute easiest way for me to solve the issue, would be with a sample file.
If you could provide me with such a sample DV AVI file from your camcorder, that would be a great help.

Just upload it to mediafire or any other file sharing site, then post the URL here or PM it to me directly.

Until then, there is an even better fix to your problem.
You don't have to disable Icaros completely, just uncheck the Avi checkbox, under 'Property Filetypes'.
That should be enough to stop the issue from happening.
