MKV Thumbnails
R E V I S E D
Follow this proceedure; Press [Reset All] in the Lower Left (x64 users do this in the x64 settings application) digital audio? go the the Audio TAB, set ffdshow passthrough (allow the left side to set itself to 'same as input') Next, clear your thumbnail cache by utilizing the Disk Cleanup Tool to find it, navigating the startmenu . . . All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Cleanup The tool defaults to your Windows Drive, click OK In the next window that appears, be sure the box next to Thumbnails is checked, press OK Reboot your system. Browse all of your MKV files before making any further changes in the settings application. For FLV's etc to be thumbed, you need to set FFDshow as the H264 decoder. For MKV's containing mpeg2 video, set ffdshow on the SWAP TAB for mpeg2 x64 users; on a clean install, the x64 app must be openned using Run as administrator to enable the thumbing. If UAC is turned OFF, please uninstall my software
Default UAC settings are required for my software to function properly |

RE: MKV Thumbnails
beginning with versions 245/251 I will include the DivX Media Foundation splitter/thumbnailer
(formally known as the DivX MKV Preview) and it will be enabled by default. (32 and 64bit) Implementation Synopsis: When a user chooses to make any deviation on the righthand side of the H264 TAB other than using the default Microsoft decoder, the DivX MF Splitter will be automatically de-activated because it only works with the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder. Using the suggested settings checkbox will also de-activate it. Setting the Microsoft decoder on the H264 TAB, activates the DivX software. This implementation will give users perfect MKV thumbnails by default for files containing AVC (H264) video. If UAC is turned OFF, please uninstall my software

RE: MKV Thumbnails
Hello shark, thanks for your amazing piece of software.
I installed your last version (x64 2.5.2) and the addition of DivX media foundation splitter to do the mkv thumbnailing is awesome, but using this setting playing mkv files results in stuttering: the only way to properly watch HD mkv+subtitles is thru ffdshow DXVA, but then the thumbnailing dies. Is there any way to get the best of both worlds? Thanks again! |

I have it working, but it was done under an older version and I haven't been able to replicate it with newer ones. If I recall correctly, here's the steps I did: 1. Install DivX tech preview (unchecked all other components) EDIT by Shark007 - The DivX software is included in my distribution. DO NOT install it on your own. 2. Installed Win7Codecs 2.4.1 3. Installed x64 Components 2.4.7 4. In x64 Components on H264 tab, set ffdshow as the decoder EDIT by Shark007 - The DivX software included in my distribution does the thumbing in current releases. This gets video played with ffdshow while DivX does the thumbnailing in Windows Explorer. Haven't done much with subtitles so I'm not sure if there's other changes to make for those. |

RE: MKV Thumbnails
Hi Shark,
I love the codec pack! It works awesome! I'm still having a problem with MKV thumbnails with H.264 video codec, but I haven't found a fix for it through the forum. the thumbnails show up but they are blurred. Some look better than others. They look like the picture is there but scrambled like old tv channels were from back in the day. This only happens with some of the files. The other files look fine. also I installed 32 and 64 bit versions and i'm using the microsoft codec setting. |

RE: MKV Thumbnails
It's Divx, who decides how the thumbnails should be rendered, you need to take this issue to their forum, and hope that they might improve it (I highly doubt it though, as there hasn't been any updates for more than a year now).

RE: MKV Thumbnails
Hi, I wanted to express my appreciation for the latest release, now mkv thumbnails are phenomenal!
![]() A suggestion to Win 7 64 bit users: I set different codecs for H264 decoding in 32 bit and 64 bit settings. 32 bit: use ffdshow DXVA 64 bit: use Microsoft This way you'll get the nice thumbnails (explorer is 64 bit) while using full video card acceleration in Media Player (which is 32 bit, unless you chose otherwise). |
