Need help with MPEG-2 on Windows Movie Maker
I've had this codec package for some time. I got the basics of it down and it helped me take my MPEG-2 files and use them in Windows Movie Maker to edit. After I installed the latest pack, I can no longer import those files to Windows Movie Maker. Can anyone help?

RE: Need help with MPEG-2 on Windows Movie Maker
on the Misc TAB, try disabling the LAV splitter.

I have no more idea's at this time. I am currently on a Windows 7 system.
please check back in a few hours and I'll fire up a Vista system and do some testing Are you on WinXP? If so, try selecting either ffdshow or PDVD from the MPG TAB |

I was reading around the net and some people were saying FFDshow helps with playing MPEG-2 on Window Movie Maker, but they gave some type of weird instructions that weren't in the settings. They were talking about the encoder and decoder. The decoder options were simple enough, but the encoder options didn't match up. |

RE: Need help with MPEG-2 on Windows Movie Maker
WMM on a 64bit system is a 64bit application that uses 64bit codecs.
Uninstall and re-install the x64Components addon v307 open the 64bit Settings Application as an Administrator once and close it In WMM, click Tools | Options and be sure LAV is unchecked and FFDshow is checked test . . . FYI, there is a tool on the Misc TAB that can tell you the contents of any mediafile. Use the button, 'Analyze a media file' to determine whether or not your files actually do contain mpeg2 content. Keep in mind when troubleshooting that you must make changes in the 64bit Settings Application to have an effect on WMM's outcome. |

RE: Need help with MPEG-2 on Windows Movie Maker
I actually didn't have the 64 bit extra codec stuff installed. I installed it, opened it, closed it, and checked to see if it would import to WMM. It imported the video, but the video wouldn't play. I did everything else you said.
The analyze a media file just shows this: General Complete name : C:\Users\Hector\Documents\Strategy Guides\Easter Eggs\20110920042039.mpg File size : 433 MiB My capture device says it only saves in three formats: MPEG-2, H.264, or iPod. I chose MPEG-2. |

RE: Need help with MPEG-2 on Windows Movie Maker
If that is all the analyze tool shows - the file is a dud containing nothing.
again, just FYI, H264 is much higher quality video than MPEG2 H264 = Blu-ray quality MPEG2 = DVD quality |
