Newbie Question - sorry....
I am new to the world of codecs in general. I have installed several in the past but that was when I needed a specific one in order to play a particular file or files.
In any case, I am running on Windows 7. I am NOT getting the Hauppauge TVR card to work under Windows 7 Media Center. It worked under Vista, but not under Win7. So in searching the web I stumbled across an article that indicated that this was a MS Codec error. I followed that persons advice (*used MCDU) and that didnt work. I followed another thread, and it suggested the Shark Win7 Codecs. Installed. Now I am getting an error indicating that : Decoder Error - the video decoder is not working, is not installed or not supported. Try installing the Codec or restarting your computer" Obviously I am getting good at rebooting but I am wondering now if I am hosed? I did run the other util - then when it didnt resolve the problem, at least its a different issue than before :-) Before I had AUDIO, not video. Could see all the channels on TV as blank, but I did get the audio for the show. Any thoughts on how to proceed with trying to get something moving? Thanks in advance! I DID do a search and was reading articles, and I did read that the codecs may not be a FIX for it. BUT I am really grasping at straws at this point. I am NOT going to go back to Vista :-) |

RE: Newbie Question - sorry....
My software will not help you.
I suggest a clean install of the operating system. next update Windows itself. Then update the graphic drivers that you have acquired from the chipset manufacturer, not the computer manufacturer (typically ATI, Nvidia or Intel) If at this ppoint, the TV card is still not working properly, proceed to install drivers directly from Hauppauge. I am sure your TVR will be working correctly. If you need support for MKV's etc, then install my software. My software will not break your system. If UAC is turned OFF, please uninstall my software
Default UAC settings are required for my software to function properly |

In a CLEAN load (Windows7) it still doesnt work - it WAS working in Vista. I was HOPING it might be able to be a simple fix, and that it might be as easy as a missing CODEC. But I am not seeing it. I will keep working and Thanks for the quick response! |
