RE: No surround sound from mkv, but same DVD has surround

I reinstalled more than once in the past month trying to get WMC on windows 7 x64 to work, using K-Crap. I followed your instructions on how to fix the damage K-Crap has done and installed Shark007. After that i followed the above instructions and it finally works! Donating right now. |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
I wish I was so lucky. I have tried every suggestion from this thread and no go. I hope shark can come to the rescue. Here's what I have done so far.
MC Live TV DD5.1 works fine. BluRay/DVD/DTS-A via PowerDVD works fine. Foobar shows that the source files are indeed 24bit/96khz 6 channel flac. Installed 32 and 64 bit Shark007 components. Configured the following settings in both config applications. [x] Shark007 suggested settings [x] Disable AC3Filter [x] Disabe DivX Media Foundation Splitter [x] disable auto speaker configuration [x] same as input [ ] set AC3Filter to use S/PDIF FFDshow S/PDIF pass-through [x] use pass-through (Digital Audio) Equipment: Win7 64bit > Realtek ALC888 > Coaxial spdif Kimber Kable AGDL > Marantz SR-18 The one inconsitency that sticks out to me is the windows control panel > sound configuration you mention setting it to setero. I dont have a option for sound field or surrond modes. Just Supported formats eg: DTS, DD WMA Pro.. Sample ratres and "Default format" Which unless I set it to 24 bit 96000Hz (Studio Quality) I never get a 96khz indication from my Marantz with any source file.. even 96khz flac's. Would a Halide USB S/PDIF Bridge solve my problems without software? I guess they sound awsome and it if fixes my problem maybe $450 is worth it I would rather get this alc888 working and make a much smaller donation ![]() Thanks in advance!! |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
Your receiver is probably not capable of decoding the HD audio.
Open the Config TAB, select FFDshow Audio config scroll the leftside and select 'Output' on the rightside, un-check DTS-HD and un-check Dolby TrueHD |

One thing I did notice is that when playing FLAC files of any sample rate FFDshow appears to not be in use; I dont get the tray icon. With mp3 any other formats I do. I have checked in the FFDshow codec configuration and FLAC is set to libavcodec. Could this be the problem... FFDShow is not the decoder? Thanks! |

FLAC is decoded using Xiph decoders.
For proper channel output from flac files you need to set your proper speaker count in Control Panel | Sound. |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
First of all thanks to shark007 for all your work and support on this free project.
I'm new to this world but have spent many hours scouring the web and these forums. I've read and tried all the settings recommended on this thread as well as another one that covers similar issues. I'm running win7. My soundcard is a rocketfish 5.1. Trying to stream to spdif. I have the sound card set to 2/2.1. Surround sound works fine with wtv files. Downloaded the latest version of shark007 32 and 64. Using recommended settings. At this point everything works fine while viewing mkv's. Although not bitstreaming of course and getting pcm coming out on the ffdshow audio decoder. I've been very careful to only make one change at a time. When I check off the box in ffdshow s/pdif passthrough-use pass-through(digital audio). I get this error. "windows media player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or a required codec might not be installed on your computer." When this error message is on the screen ffdshow displays this. input: DTS-HD 7.1 96000 HZ 1536 kbps (bitstream) output: HDMI bitstream (1403) I've also tried the recommended settings from link I'm guessing I'm one silly setting away from getting this to work but I'm not sure what it is. Thanks in advance. Edit: Did further debugging today. I think it may have something in the way my sound card is defined in windows. In the sound panel it is called a digital audio interface. My video card is an Nvidia gt 430. My tv can decode the hdmi and output stereo but I do not have a receiver that can accept hdmi (which is why I'm trying to go spdif). When I switch to the hdmi audio, it plays but does some crazy things like the video tempo will be erratic and the sound was breaking up. But it did play unlike the spdif output. Any help would be appreciated. |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
A TV needs an anolog signal.
you cannot set passthrough unless the hdmi is direct from the PC to an amplifier. |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
I wanted to report back my resolution. After hours of hacking away at it and searching forums I came across this thread link. Being a newbie at this I didn't think it would work but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. I removed shark007 codecs. DL'd haali splitter from haali.su and installed it. I also installed spdifer which resulted in no sound. I uninstalled spdifer and to my surprise I was able to view mkv and the DTS light was lit on my receiver. So now I'm only running haali splitter. I didn't know win7 could play h.264 natively. I think my next step is a clean windows install. i don't really understand it but it works.

(09-05-2010 03:32 PM)Shark007 Wrote: hineems, on the MKV TAB of the 64bit settings application, disable the DivX MF splitter. With Divx Splitter enabled, I have no problems playing MKV files and getting digital 5.1 sound with Windows Media Player (64), Windows Media Player Home Cinema (64), and PowerDVD. I also get thumbnails. My only issue is with Windows Media Center. With Divx Splitter enabled, Windows Media Center won't output digital 5.1 surround sound. With Divx Splitter disabled, all of my media players play MKV files and output digital 5.1 sound, but I don't get any thumbnails for MKV files. I would rather enable the Divx Splitter and have the thumbnails, since three out of my four players will play MKV files even with Divx Splitter enabled. The only drawback is you have to change the setting if you want to use Media Center to play an MKV with 5.1 surround sound. And yes...I'm using Shark's version of MPC. It's really not that big of a drawback. Just use a different player for that one type of file, or live without MKV thumbnails. Thanks Shark. Ok. I'm a bit OCD, but I found another quirk. MPC Home Cinema (64) will not output the audio of MVK's that are encoded in DTS through the laptop speakers, but it will output DTS Surround Sound to my receiver via the toslink. MPC Home Cinema will also output the audio of MVK's that are encoded in Dolby 5.1 through the laptop speakers. I have tried every setting imaginable inside MPC to no avail. |
