RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
I wanted to share my findings. Maybe it will help someone. So I did the clean install and was only running haali splitter. I found the sound jittery and if I would click on the time bar and move around in the video, the follow on playback would intermittently playback at double speed. I thought maybe it was a problem with haali so I reinstalled shark007 to use the gabest splitter. I started getting not able to play errors like I did before. I found that some files would play and some wouldn't.
I figured out the ones that would not play had dts hd. I tried to uncheck the hd formats in ffdshow audio under output. It had no effect. I used tsmuxer to down convert to dts and bingo. All problems went away. I had kept the dts hd with the thought that if I later got an hd capable receiver I would have the content. Also, my understanding was that if you didn't have the hd capability the core dts track would play apparently it causes problems in htpc. |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
Hi shark,
As with most others, a big thanks for your package, and ever patient help! I'm having issues getting dts hd playback through WMC. I'm running win7 x64 on an i3 CPU, H55 chipset mobo, output via hdmi to a pioneer 919. Any MKV w/ dts hd I have will play some video with a clean install, but poorly with no audio. When set to ffdshow passthrough, the files will not play at all (both set ups tried in WMP and WMC). Using the info in this guide Has not made a difference (including the gabest splitter). Rendering the file in the config is also without sound. If I uncheck dts hd in the ffdshow audio config, then the files will play, bit streaming dts. Analyzing the file says it is dts ma 1500kbps Would really love to get this lossless goodness going, So would really appreciate any assistance you could provide. Oh yeah, all others lossy formats play fine (haven't tested a true hd yet). Thanks in advance for your help!!

I should have probably confirmed that the 919 is capable of decoding the dts hd and dolby truehd formats. As in my first post it is connected via hdmi to the AVR. I'm sure there's something silly that I'm doing/not doing, but I cant seem to get any result! ![]() Any more help, for a mere codec mortal?!

Is UAC disabled?
if it is, uninstall my software. set UAC to 'Default', reboot your system, re-install my software follow the 2nd post of this thread... again |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
Thanks again for the reply.
UAC isn't disabled, so I don't think that's it. I'm going to try and get another couple of samples to make sure it's nothing to do with the files... but that's a bit of a hail mary. It's got me beat why it won't work! |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
Here are settings on my HTPC to pass-through DTS-HD/TrueHD. Since I'm using 64bit Windows 7, I configure both Shark007 32bit and Shark007 64bit the same way. Please review enclosed file for detail (DTS-HD/TrueHD pass-through). I'm not sure why my Shark007 setting showed "turn off pass-through" under audio tab. It should be "use pass-through (digital audio)" and un-checked "Set AC Filter to S/PDIF".

Thanks bluray for your response. I haven't gone through line by line of your setup, but I believe that the setups will be the same.
In control panel I have the hdmi set to default device and stereo, but my 'speakers' are 'not plugged in' so I can't configure them. Have confirmed that TrueHD mkvs will play, but only in stereo. Will keep plugging away, I might try and reset with your settings, once I can wrestle the tv back from the kids watching Toy Story 3!!!! |

I haven't gone through line by line of your setup, but I believe that the setups will be the same.I updated my visual step by step procedure (DTS-HD/TrueHD pass-through). If you're using Win7 64x, you'll need to set both Shark007 32bit/64bit the same way. One thing I found out I set the audio to pass-through in Shark007 audio tab with "Run As Administrator", it did not keep the setting as pass-through. When I set it without using "Run As Administrator", it kept the pass-through. Everything have to be precisely set to get proper DTS-HD/TrueHD pass-through to AVR via HDMI. You can use MediaInfo (it's on the Misc TAB, analyze a media file) to verify the DTS-HD/TrueHD codec to make sure that the BD movie or encoded BD file has DTS-HD/TrueHD codec in it. I'm glad that Shark007 generated this solution, because MCE cannot pass-through DTS-HD/TrueHD without it. |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
THANK YOU! Using the instructions from Shark at the beginning of the thread I now get DD and DTS from my HTPC!
One small issue, however... I noticed that when I play MKVs on my XBox 360 (Extender), it appears they are now being transcoded as the quality is pretty terrible. Does this have something to do with the settings I changed and if so, is there a way to have both the surround and full quality MKVs on my extender? Thanks! |
