All I can suggest for the extender is that you do not disable the DivX MF splitter on the MKV TAB. On 64bit systems, this splitter is known to cause issues with Media Center playback so you would need to toggle the setting on/off depending on your intended playback device. |

So basically if I disable the splitter, it will play fine with surround on my PC, but transcode to the Xbox... and if enabled it will play on the Xbox, but no surround on the PC? That's going to be tough as my wife is always going back and forth between the two and she isn't going to want to have to toggle that setting every time. I guess I'll leave the splitter enabled so that the video quality is good on the Xbox. Thank for the fast response! |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
Shark,
In messing around with the settings I screwed something up. So, I reset everything back to installation defaults and followed your instructions in the second post (like I had done before). However, this time, while everything is working fine on the PC, when I try to play the majority of my files on my Xbox (mkv, mov, mpeg) I get the message "Video Error Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media.. etc." I backtracked the changes you suggested one by one and it turns out the one that is causing the problem is disabling Microsofts Media Decoder. As soon as I uncheck that in both 32 and 64, the Xbox works perfectly. The only problem with that is that I don't then get the surround on the computer. I have the Divx Media Foundation Splitter disabled under the MKV tab. Any ideas on what I'm screwing up here? Thanks again for all your help! EDIT Ok, upon further inspection, on the computer I'm getting DTS out of the MKVs that have it -- great! However, I'm not getting DD out of Live TV or my ripped DVDs. I was before... This is all with the Microsoft Audio Decoder ENABLED. |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
It is possibly related to the settings in Control Panel | Sound.
To have ffdshow bitstream, you need to set stereo for the speaker config but this DOES interfere with Windows audio decoding. Try changing the setting to your actual speaker count. Although this may fix your current issue, it will stop ffdshow from sending proper signals to your AVR too. |

RE: No surround sound from mkv, [RESOLVED]
Hi shark,
One thing that I'm confused is only the speaker settings. I use new mobo called Asrock Z68 Extreme4 with come up with Realtek HD. Current setup with my RealtekHD, I use HDMI connection for my audio. Will that be the speaker settings, if I connected through HDMI connection just configure from there and select into stereo instead of my 7.1 ? As with the other user guideline, it's confusing me as he has two different configuration with the audio which one connect with ATI HDMI and the other one with Realtek HDMI. Appreciate your replied Cheers |

Hi all, still having no luck getting hd audio pass through... i did come across something strange though. when playing a dts or dd file, ffdshow (in the system tray) reports input as dts 5.1 'xx bit xx sample rate' & output as "bitstream". On a Truehd track it states input as truehd, but output as PCM... i cant work out why it wouldnt bitstream those tracks?? once again, any help is appreciated!!! |
