Play MKV files on PS3 from Windows Home Server?

I have a Playstation 3 connected to a Windows Home Server (HP MediaSmart Server EX487) via Ethernet. I would like to play mkv files on the PS3 from the server.

I have successfully installed VistaCodecs_626 on my server. On the mkv tab I checked the box that enables linked files. i dont know what other settings to make.

I am not sure what I should do next. My PS3 can see other folders and file types on the server (mp4, vob, avi) and plays these fine. But it cannot see the mkv folder or files.

I am reasonably new to this, so any advice would be welcome. Are there setttings i need to do in the windows home server console?

I do not use extenders.
What knowledge I do have is derived from from users.

I do not think Vista can send an mkv to an extender. IF using Windows 7, on the MKV TAB of the Windows 7 codecs, there is a checkbox to enable a MF splitter to send the h264 (avc) video stream to the extender for further processing.

you might investigate the MP4 container as oposed to MKV for this purpose.

My server is actually running Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 (in other places it appears to be called Windows Server 2003).

Does this have the same limitations as Vista?
