My older laptop can play 720p fine but is having a hard time playing 1080p movies. I have a 1080p movie file with me though. Can you set shark0007 codec to play a 1080p movie file as 720p quality?

Please let me know. Thanks.

try using an alternate player. I suggest MPC-HC downloded from my tools page.

on the H264 TAB, select LAV and then click its config button.
In the upper right try using some hardware acceleration.

Just to clarify the settings:
Nvidia CUVID - should work on any newer Nvidia Geforce cards (probably 9xxx and upwards)

Intel Quicksync - will work only on new Intel "graphic cards" (integrated into the CPU, e.g. 2000, 3000, 4000 graca series / 2xxx, 3xxx cpu series)

DXVA2 Copy-back - should work on any decent graphic card

DXVA2 Native - works best with more powerful Nvidia or AMD dedicated graphic cards.

The modes depend very much on graphic drivers - newest might be the best, but this is not always the case.
Also filetypes might be different. A MKV file with h264 1080p video might be playing just fine, but WMV is not supported yet/or not fully if I am not mistaken.
