Problem with PCM Audio & 5.1 Surround (SOLVED)
I have been having an issue with all of my MKVs that have PCM audio.
I have 5.1 surround and I am using the analog on my sound card. The problem is the audio coming out of the right rear speaker is very faint and the sound pops every now and then out of this speaker. Other audio formats play fine through all speakers and the PCM tracks play fine if I try them using VLC. The same PCM tracks play fine on a different pc that has similar hardware using the exact same audio and codec settings. Tonight I replaced the sound card in the pc having the trouble with a new card and the problem still remains. I am using v3.6.2 of the codec packs and I have tried LAV audio/video/splitter as well as FFDShow audio/video with Haali's splitter and I get the same results. Any ideas what the problem could be? A sample of one of my MKVs with PCM audio can be obtained here: http://www.mediafire.com/?cj7lmbjaazld537 |

The audio tab is on auto speaker configuration and is correctly detecting 5.1 . I may backup my OS and try a fresh install later tonight to see if it cures the problem, however I almost hope it doesn't lol, re-setting up Media Center and all apps will be fairly time consuming. Let me know if you think of anything else and thanks for all your help. |

I got an image backup of the OS from early April, I'm going to roll back to that and see if the problem still occurs, if so I can try a fresh OS install. I can always re-install back to my current backup. I'll post back after the roll back or fresh install and let you know what the outcome is. Thanks again. |

RE: Problem with PCM Audio & 5.1 Surround
Your MKV sample with PCM audio used no FFDshow decoder, so that you can not influence the sound output:
Try again with AC3 filter: AMD A6-3650 with HD6530 graphics * XP MCE 2005, Windows 7 x86 + x64 + 8 x64 * PowerDVD 12 + 13 |

I also tried a fresh install of Windows and only installed the audio and video drivers and the shark007 codec pack but the problem was still there. I have another computer in the bedroom that has the same motherboard and I found that is also has this issue.... I am beginning to wonder if the motherboard could have anything to do with it. |

The same board or the same sound card, maybe your problem is it?

Same motherboard, different sound cards however all the sound cards I currently have are from the X-Fi series, a combination of Creative and Auzentech products.
I am going to update the bios on one of the motherboards, if that doesn't help I'll try one of the sound cards out of one of the troubled computers in my computer that doesn't have the problem just to see if the issue is tied to the sound card. |

RE: Problem with PCM Audio & 5.1 Surround
Well after trying one of the sounds cards that was experiencing the issue in my gaming computer (which previously did not have the issue) and found the sound card to be working fine I discovered something.
The receiver on my Z-5500 speaker system was set to 3D mode, which was expanding the audio to all channels. Once I disabled the 3D mode I quickly found out that this pc suffered from the same problem..., low sound from the rear right speak when playing back PCM tracks in 5.1 I've tried everything I can think of. All 3 of my computers are having this issue. Maybe this is just a global issue with all X-Fi cards. I'll try an older driver later to see if the issue is still present but I'm done messing with it for tonight. Thanks for trying to help guys. If you come up with any other ideas let me know. |
