Prologic II and stereo sources
I figured I would start an other thread since my problem is now different and everything else works.
My issue now is that stereo audio like youtube or any sort of online streaming comes out as 7-channel stereo PCM. Anything comming out of front left is repeated rear left. Not sure why this is as I got mp3s as well as AVI to be mixed properly. For those not familiar, prologicII will take that stereo feed, put voice in front and then some sort of more subtle mix of sounds in the back that compliment the front speakers. I saw some mixer options for both LAV and FFDSHOW audio and there is also options for prologicII. FFDSHOW has an option in "dolby decoder" to "apply dolby prologicII to all stereo sources" How do I get that to work properly? I Don't even know how it came to be that I have 7-channel stereo when at first I had only left and right and 5 empty channels. In fact, if I could at least get those sources to be simply PCM stereo I would be ok with that too. Having dialog comming evenly from every speaker is actually very anoying. The effect is not fun at all. |

My software controls DirectShow playback only. This type of audio (youtube) is controlled solely through the Control Panel | Sound applet. |

RE: Prologic II and stereo sources
I see.
Then something weird is going on. Before I set MP3s in SWAP to go through FFDSHOW to be mixed, I was getting audio only through two speakers (L-R). Why would stereo sources in WMP be 2 speakers and other sources such as youtube have stereo repeated through all speakers? I not 100% sure but close that before I did some change, online streaming (youtube, gametrailers) was only comming from left and right speakers. Nvidia HD audio has no mixer option or matrix (barely any options for that matter) in the control panel. Somehow a "expand to all channels" setting is now active for stereo sources that are not AVI, MP3 or otherwise. Anyone have any ideas? What did I possibly change? It seems that no settings in Shark007 should influence Youtube audio. Anyone else experience this? |

RE: Prologic II and stereo sources
you're attempting to have the best of 2 different worlds simultaneously and is not going to work that way.
If you want to bitstream audio from files stored on your system you need to set 'stereo' in Control Panel | Sound and select the correct bitstreaming option in the Settings Application. When bitstreaming is selected, the speaker selection on the leftside of the audio tab needs to be set to 'Same as input' which occurs automatically when selecting a bitstream option. If you want proper audio channel counts from games (pcm audio) and online playback (flash video) you need to set the proper speaker count in Control Panel | Sound. On the Audio TAB you would need to select anolog output and doing so would auto detect the speaker channel count used in Control Panel | Sound and it will auto-set that in the settings application. The above are just facts. btw, I am away from home and on holidays until Aug 23 |

RE: Prologic II and stereo sources
[/quote]I was hoping to get the best of both worlds but seems it is not possible. I came close though. If I set my control panel/sound device to 7.1, I still get proper 5.1 DTS/Dolby in videos with both WMP and MPC. Games are obviously also in full 7.1.
The only part that does not work 100% is with stereo sources. Some, such as Mp3s, are handled in ProLogicII just fine (although AVR displays PCM, PLII is handled by software) and online audio (youtube, flash, etc) come out all-channel stereo (same output in all right side speakers) while some other sources are stuck with only front left and right outputting any sound. Interesting that I came close to perfect while leaving my speaker setting to 7.1 though. It is slightly annoying to go back to configure speakers in the sound device. |

RE: Prologic II and stereo sources
all audio is decoded to PCM before it reaches your ear.
Even when bitstreaming, the AVR decodes to PCM to allow you to hear it. So, whether it is decoded on the PC to PCM or sent to te AVR for decoding, the final product is always PCM. |
