Subtitle Issue with FFDSHOW DVXA
I have a big collection categorised by MyMovies in Windows Media Center (on Windows 7) and so am very keen to continue to using that. I pretty much use 100% MKVs that contain x.264 video and everything is working well with one exception.
MY PC is quite old (4 years or so but it was designed for HD video from the word go- it sits under my TV). It has a dual core intel processor 3.2Ghz, 4Gig DDR3 RAM memory and an fairly high end (at the time) Nvidia graphics card with 250MB of on board RAM. I dont think that my hardware is the cause of this problem as video plays perfectly with RAM at 1.3Gig / Gig used and the CPU at less than 20% use. I switched to FFDSHOW DVXA from LAV so I could use external subtitle files. Subtitles work fine except that there is a lot of pixelation around them when they are on screen and especially when there is quite a lot of movement in the picture. This did not happen at all when I was using the LAV codec and Haali media splitter to select internal subtitles. I presume that this is due to the action of overlaying the subtitles on top of the video. Questions 1) Is there a way to fix this?. I am no expert and the array of settings possible using the excellent settings application is bewildering. (I am wondering that if the subtitles were displayed in a black box or black background, whether this would fix the problem..is there a setting for that?). 2) I am not wedded to the embedded player in WMC just WMC and mymovies itself. It seems that Shark007 has designed the codec pack to work best with MPC-Homecinema player. Can this player be used as the embedded player in Windows Player instead of what there is there already and would this be likely to fix the subtitle pixelation issue I am experiencing. Many thanks |
