Is it the fact that you basterdized the Windows installation? Maybe you have decided to disable UAC prompts. I dont know what is going on but I am quite sure the issue is yours and no one else has these problems. lol..... "basterdized" i cannot be certain of what effect removing WMP from windows had... what i am certain of... is that i have had perfect playback using your codecs before with this same PC. As for UAC.... that is a less than useless feature of windows, and the purpose of removing things *not WMP in this case* was to lock down a very insecure and bloated system. Taking out WMP was just part of removing the rest of the windows trash. I do appreciate the help tho. I'll keep trying. |

RE: Terrible WMV Playback
Well i really appreciate the help Sharky.... i am starting to believe that it is only certain files... but i don't understand why it is having issues with a 1080p WMV encode, and none of my mkv's.
I would be certain of the theory that it is limited to only certain wmv's.... but even the wmv files that work *which is the majority* they all seem to play labored or like they are lagging as if they have to catch up if i jump ahead. |

RE: Terrible WMV Playback
I have another possible solution.
How about turning those WMV files into MKV's? This is extremely simple and fast to do. Grab Metafox from my Tools page. Install it. drag n drop to the desktop shortcut, a single file, or a folder full of wmv's and it will extract the audio/video/subtitle/chapter contents and place them untouched into an MKV container. If Metafox gives you an error about Haali, re-enable Haali on the 32bit Misc TAB. |

RE: Terrible WMV Playback
Hey that is a good idea.... i'll try that now.
Question though. Originally i started using this guide to setup my codec config for your pack. URL removed by Shark007 How relevant is this guide today.... and should i turn off Windows DMO video codecs like he suggests? |

Yes, disabling the DMO codecs in current releases have no ill affects that I am aware of and will definately improve AVI playback. In past releases, doing so broke AVI thumnails but that is overcome in current releases. You really should familiarize yourself with THIS PAGE It also links to a guide that I approve of. |

RE: Terrible WMV Playback
Yes i have this guide bookmarked.... but have never read it. I will read it now... and i see why you mentioned UAC before.... no i have not turned UAC off. Instead what i did was create a true admin account.... so UAC is always on it's highest setting... but i am never bothered by it because i am always admin.
I really appreciate the help you provided me tonight.... i may not have perfect playback for my wmv's yet... but i am not finished... and i can always convert them to mkv's with meta fox.... and that is good enough for now. Take care Sharky. Bender, |
