Thumbnailing MKV's on x64 Windows 7
On x64 systems, utilize the x64 Settings Application.
go to the H264 TAB of the Settings Application choose to unlock the Microsoft Decoders and proceed to select FFDshow for playback in the Microsoft players. Next, clear your thumbnail cache by utilizing the Disk Cleanup Tool - to find it, navigating the startmenu Accessories | System Tools | Disk Cleanup The tool defaults to your Windows Drive, click OK In the next window that appears, be sure the box next to Thumbnails is checked, press OK Reboot your system. If UAC is turned OFF, please uninstall my software

RE: Thumbnailing MKV's on x64 Windows 7
If I do this then thumbails work fine - however - for VC-1 codec I require to use the CoreAVC as ffdshow is pretty shaky/jerky. If I do this then Windows Explorer crashes whenever it trys to generate a thumbnail.
I've tried this several times, rebooted but to no avail. Any ideas? Many thanks Andrew (08-02-2009 07:24 AM)Shark007 Wrote: On x64 systems, utilize the x64 Settings Application. |

Open the x64 settings app and then on the H264 TAB select CoreAVC and also select the checkbox below it. If UAC is turned OFF, please uninstall my software

RE: Thumbnailing MKV's on x64 Windows 7
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I did already have it set up like that. I've tried with and without it checked. Current settings are: Use FFDshow's codec: Do not use FFDshow Use MPC-HC DXVA codec: Do not use MPC-HC codec H264 codec in DirectShow Players: Use CoreAVC codec Enable FFDshow postprocessing while using CoreAVC to decode MKV's: checked Below that it does say "CoreAVC will crash qedit.dll if thumbnailing". Is this anything to do with it? Thanks in advance |

RE: Thumbnailing MKV's on x64 Windows 7
The order the buttons are pressed, matters.
use Reset All go to the H264 TAB, press use CoreAVC codec and afterwards select the checkbox to Enable FFDshow postprocessing while using CoreAVC to decode MKV's This specific order (not including reset all) setups Coreavc for MKV's containg h264 (avc) and at the same time uses ffdshow for the thumbnails If UAC is turned OFF, please uninstall my software

RE: Thumbnailing MKV's on x64 Windows 7
I did as you said and then rebooted but to no avail.
The VC-1 files generate a thumbnail fine but then if I look at something like: - 1080p DTS/x264 or - 720p x264 Then Window Explorer crashes. I've posted a screenshot to show you that it's set up correctly. Below is the exception details wrote to my Event Viewer: ============================================= Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 6.1.7600.16404, time stamp: 0x4a765771 Faulting module name: qedit.dll, version: 6.6.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5be02b Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x000000000006bb73 Faulting process id: 0x160c Faulting application start time: 0x01ca93de45b49a38 Faulting application path: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE Faulting module path: C:\Windows\System32\qedit.dll Report Id: ad50aef2-ffd1-11de-87b6-8000600fe800 ============================================= Without knowing how the code works I'm guessing it's not picking up that the box is checked?!? PS - This is by far the best codec package I've come across and I really hope we can suss it out. Many thanks |

RE: Thumbnailing MKV's on x64 Windows 7
Did you install Haali that comes with CoreAVC?
If so, you will need to start over Uninstall my software - both x86 and x64 (x64 1st) uninstall Haali, and core avc re-install Coreavc, without haali Install my software and proceed to setup the H264 TAB If UAC is turned OFF, please uninstall my software

I looked to uninstall Haali but it was in the program list (remove programs). So I installed CoreAVC and then your apps. However I've just seen it's in my Start Menu but it's not in Remove Programs. Does it not uninstall with CoreAVC? It's getting late now so will do what you said tomorrow after work (I'm in UK and it's midnight). I will get back to you as soon as I've done it. Thanks - again - for all your help |
