I shut down my Windows 7 Home Premium X64 laptop last night with all my thumbnails working. I woke up to about half of the .avi's missing, all of the mkv's are black and the mp4's are gone and the AAC are gone. Strange but true. I did not install any 3rd party apps and no new media players, so if you have a suggestion or a tutorial I need to follow please let me know Shark. I've used your codecs faithfully for a long time now due to the fact that you take care of your upgrades. You are not a slacker, so the least I can do is use your product. No doubt I will have to reinstall as I think I might be 1 or 2 behind in versions. Please guide me to your best suggestion or tutorial on getting these thumbnails back so they stay.

Are your video drivers up to date?

RE: Thumbnails disappearing again
Are you using current release(s) of my codecs?
older releases of the Icaros Thumbnailer relied on the LAV splitter, current releases are stanfalone. |

RE: Thumbnails disappearing again
Do you have .Net installed? You can verify with Windows Update if you're not sure.

Now after the upgrade to 3.65 the only ones that I have are the WMV few video files that I have. I don't understand this because I've had very few problems in the past, especially with the .avi's. I even did a reset on the codecs and did the filetype association with Windows Media. If you have any other ideas please let me know. Ikaros thumbnail doesn't have any issues. There are 3 that are property filetype associated and all the rest are registered as thumbnail filetypes. |

RE: Thumbnails disappearing again
Hi julio99,
What happens if you clear your thumbnail cache? Does all the thumbnails stay "blank" (like icons)? To clear the cache, open IcarosConfig, click the banner, and click the "Clear Cache" button. Restart Explorer, or log out of Windows and then back in to refresh Explorer. Btw, what do you mean by "and the AAC are gone"? AFAIK, AAC doesn't produce any thumbnails... I tell you this whole thing has got me confused, I can't even remember what the AAC issue was about, so we'll just chalk that up to my stupidity and move on. I did clear the cache in Icaros and yes everything went blank. I'm taking it that should happen, right? I rebooted and everything was the same as when I started. No changes at all. There was thumbnails in one folder and none in another one. I have a feeling that this could be due to a Media Player I installed called "Splash Ex Pro". Have you heard anything about that player. It is actually pretty nice. I just went into the program Files on this player and there are what appears to be codecs in there so I'm going to have to make a decision here on what I want to do. Like I said before, I never had these problems until now so I'm going to go out on a limb and attribute this to the new media player. I will get back to you when I finally make a decision. |

RE: Thumbnails disappearing again
julio99,
Splash Ex Pro might have done something to the filetype associations that have blocked your thumbnailing. If you know you're way around the Windows Registry, take a look at the HKCR\.mkv\ShellEx key. Does it contain this key/value pair? {e357fccd-a995-4576-b01f-234630154e96} @={c5aec3ec-e812-4677-a9a7-4fee1f9aa000} (@ is "(Default)") Since the installation of Splash, have you tried deactivating Icaros and then re-activating it? You are probably assuming that I have the Win 7 codecs installed a this moment and I don't. I need to straighten a few things out in my system with all my media add ons and such. Kind of sort out what is needed and what isn't. I used to have a bad habit of piling stuff on and getting lost amongst the rubble if you know what I mean. Once I clear everything and find out the way I want to go I'll get back to you if there are any hiccups, if that's okay with you? The Splash Ex Pro is a pretty nice media player, but it may lack in a few things I need. Just thought I'd comment on that. |
