Hm, this didn't work to generate the thumbnails. Anything else I could do? I somehow think it is a Windows cache issue above anything else, since WMP12 is also slow to refresh changed library items.

No luck :-( I cleaned the thumbs cache with Disk Cleanup, rebooted. All other thumbs got regenerated (movies, pics) but the .mov files are still presented with an icon only. It is interesting that thumbs are available in WMP/WMC, just not in Windows Explorer, but it is very important for me to be able to know which clip I am dragging to DVD Flick to create a DVD.

could you provide a sample for testing?

IF your sample is larger than 40MB an easy to use tool called DGSplit
is available from my tools page to help you create a 40MB sample.

Once you have prepared the sample upload it to mediafire.com and place the download URL here.

Changing the extension to .hdmov worked for me, although that doesn't work for older style SVQ3 (Sorenson Video encoded) movs.

Huh, changing the extension to .hdmov immediately crashed Explorer on my Win7 :-) I will upload a sample as soon as possible, thank you all.

a sample is not needed.
There are more types of MOV's than I have fingers.

There is no uni-setting that will make them all work.
To each his own . . .

OK, I thought a sample could provide more info on the problem, as you suggested. I was not looking for a setting to make all .MOV thumbs work, as I am dealing only with this type. I will nevertheless try to get to the solution as the problem is a really frustrating one.
