As I said, I myself deleted the .vob entry before I copied the one from another computer. I added a snipping to show you my entry now.
Make sure you add the second registry entry (vob_auto_file) also.
OK, I did everything as you said and I'm adding a snip of what it looks like after loading your reg entries. I do believe that ours are not the same. It looks like I am still missing part of the vob entry if yo put ours side by side. As you'ill see in the snip I have one that says "Content" your's don't, probably no big deal there, but I'm missing the one that says "Standard" vob_auto_file. Unless you can tell me how to create that in steps, well you know. Is it a string or what. I know the registry a bit so let me know.

if you delete your complete key .vob and than doubleclick my vob.reg it should create exactly the same entries I have. (You may export your .vob key before, so in case there are any problems you can restore it - just delete mine and doubleclick yours)

As you can see by my Snip it doesn't. What else can I say? I followed all procedures per your directions. I can still play vob's if I do it by going to file, blah blah blah, but otherwise I can't get them to double click and play. If you find anything else let me know.

let's try it manually

go to /HKCR/.vob
click "content", delete it
doubleclick "(default)" - the box which opens type vob_auto_file, enter
check if the key "/HKCR/vob_auto_file exists
check the content of this entry (see picture)

I finally found the vob_auto_file you were referring to. It was way down below those VLC entries. Still won't play those files. Look at the entry that I got in the right hand side that looks as though wmp is unregistered. Does your entry look like this or are there any other ones I should get rid of or change? What would happen if I uninstalled SP1 in windows 7. Would that give me the default version of wmp12? Just about trying anything noow. By the way are you using any external codecs or codec packs? Because I'm trying all this bare bones.

Guess what? I was just about to give up when I decided to install Sharks codecs again. I installed both 32 & 64 and of course I used the 32 default and I chose to use Shark's reccomended settings and it works now. I went to the same VOB files that I've been trying for the last 2 days and now they play. I thought these .VOB files were able to play without a codec pack being installed? That is why I asked you if you are still using the pack and what settings do you roll with? Clue me in but I'm totally happy now that this is working.

Read my edited reply above. It works now brother and I want to thank you because I'm sure it was your settings along with the codecs that moved it along. I had the Shark's pack installed when we first started and it was a no go, so it had to be the tinkering in the registry along with re-installing Shark's 3.78 pack that got it going. Read my edited post above. We must've been typing at the same time.
Now I can't find the edit I first sent you but it just said that I got it to work, so thanks again my friend. You were a lot of help, because I'm sure I would have given up long before this.
