WMP Win7 No Subtitles MPG Playback

All my video files play fine WITH SRT subtitles, except MPG files (MPEG 1), KM Players plays MPGs WITH subtitles.

On the SWAP TAB, disable the Microsoft Video decoder.

Tried that, video plays fine, the FFDShow icon shows up in the bottom right on desktop, FFDShow displays subtitles enabled....but no subtitles

Any more possibilities??

After disabling the Microsoft Video decoder, on the left side of the SWAP TAB, set FFDshow for MPEG2

Nope. As a side note, if I undo the "Disable the Microsoft Video decoder, the mpg file will not play. The file IS an MPEG 1. As I said, the KM Player adds the subtitles just fine, I guess I could just use the KM, but this problem intrigues me as to why it will not add the SRT subs to the video.

OK, i see my error now, i missed that it was MPEG1
with previous instruction intact, go to the Config TAB and click the button [FFDshow Video config]
scroll to MPEG1 and click the word 'disabled' and change it to libavcodec

Wow, I hate to be a party pooper, still no subs...Microsoft Video decoder disabled, FFDShow Config MPEG1 set to libavcodec...WMP does not show the SRT. KM does, VLCPlayer does not.

OK, I just found a MPEG1 file to test with. The problem is that Microsoft is still decoding the file in WMP. MPEG1 is such an old format that this is the 1st time I have had such a request.

What needs to be done to get this working is that I would need to come up with a way to disable Microsoft to allow other codecs to decode the format.

EDIT; OK, I have a solution, on the Help TAB, use the button, List Enable/Disable Codecs
about 12 up from the bottom of the list you will see 'MPEG Video Decoder'
rightclick it, and choose, Disable selected items

BINGO, thanks a lot, I guess the best way to go back to viewing AVI files etc is just to "Reset All" and then I'm good to go, wow, you are w genius whiz, and SO responsive in REAL time.
