Win8 CP support for mp4 cannot be disabled?
Dear all,
Win 8 has build in mp4 support and I cannot disable it in WMC without breaking live TV by disabling microsoft video codecs altogether. In my desperation I searched and deleted (after backup) everything I found in the registry that is related to mp4-no success. Appears to be hard coded and does not appear to rely on media foundation ( also disabled). Any other ideas what I could still try to only disable Mp4 files being handled by Microsofts components? |

I have no suggestions other than disabling the Microsoft decoder.
The best way to handle this problem is to use Metafox from my tools page. |

RE: Win8 CP support for mp4 cannot be disabled?
*sigh*-this are ~100 videos from my kids and i like to keep the fileproperties i.e. the day it was recorded. Anyway, i guess when YOU know no way of disabling specifically microsoft mp4 splitting+decoding, I will need to adapt some of my powershell scripts+mkvextract to to create new mkvs having the same properties..The better flexibility of mkv seams to be worth the effort in the longterm..
Many thanks for your very quick reponse! |

I've been using it successfully since first switching to Windows 7 a couple years ago. The Win8Codecs seem to be even better, with this one exception found by Terence_13. If I have the codec pack installed, then WMC won't find my TV Tuner. Is the there any setting that I can try to resolve this issue. I'm not familiar with Metafox or what it would do to help in this case. **************EDIT*************** I missed this line in the Setup and Usage page: If Media Center is being difficult, disable the Microsoft Video decoder on the SWAP TAB. It's working great now! Thanks again for your time! Jon |
