RE: Windows 8 OS Problems

Yeah I installed Windows 8 without formatting C. I downloaded the Windows 8 iso and used the setup.exe to start the installation. After it's finished, Windows saved this "Windows.old" folder for me, which was appr. 10Gb, and then I deleted this folder using the Disk cleanup --- clean up system files. Then I found both the audio and graphic drivers by myself online, from their official sites. Quote:And if so, you have with the NVIDIA drivers of MS Windows 8 CP (not from NVIDIA Download) the same problems? I don't get what formatting C has to do with NVIDIA downloads here? You mean the drivers provided by the computer's manufacturer? They do reserve different drivers' info/download link for each specific PC type they produce. And yes, it looks like the gridy thing is indeed caused by the graphics driver's compatibility -- I tried the version the manufacturer suggested and the grid lines got better, but still not as perfect as I want. Still has the fuzzy grid. But the worst part is, it got me more severe problems -- split, frozen, slow-switching, bad-colored, all problematic screens. Looks like my task here is to find the right driver. I just don't know what the cause on earth is, I'm sure I didn't have the grid problem in the first hours or days I installed Windows 8 (which means the 295.73 NVIDIA should have no problem with the system, as NIVDIA's "smart scan" (a plug-in helping you decide the version) too suggests that version), then it must show up after some wrong action I took. Thanks for your help. (03-06-2012 09:08 AM)Shark007 Wrote: as for IE warnings, it may be open in the background without your knowledge. Sorry I made a mistake. It wasn't IE but "Windows Explorer", but like I said, I'm sure there wasn't any "Windows Explorer" open because I closed everything even including the Internet connection. No any "Explorer" possibly open at all. But who knows. Who knows about the "background" thing. Quote:At this time, I wish I had more to offer Don't worry. You already been very helpful. I really could care less about the thumbnails, but just find it kinda bizarre -- normally even if you choose WMP to be the default program for PDF, txt, or anything at all, even it wouldn't be able to actually open it, the file extension will at least get WMP's thumbnails, but now ever since I tried Win8codecs, it became so unpredictable. Look at the three thumbnails in the picture below: Same folder, same time, 3 vids all playable, yet irregular thumbnailing (I also tried cleaning up the cache and stuff). After clicking [Icaros...], it only showed me this (see the attached pic below, doesn't look wrong). Actually the program does a good job decoding files and all, now that I figured the grid thing is the graphics driver's problem (which is funny, after I uninstalled the driver, without any drivers, the videos stopped stuttering and played smoothly as hell, as smoothly as I've never seen, but just lower resolution, of course). Have you tried Klite? Thing is, only with Win7/8codecs it's all good, but after uninstalling it, if I want to use K lite again, then K lite will warn me I should uninstall Win7codecs first although I've already done that, and later K lite can't perform well like before Win7codecs are ever installed in the system, stutters and gets stuck. Thanks. |
