Windows 8 Setup w/x64 and NVIDIA CUVID Lav
First thanks for posting Win 8 Codecs so fast after Win 8 CP being released.
Two questions... First.. After install of Win 8 Codecs, I still install x64 codecs.. x64 works on Win 8 explicitly? Second. I would like to use my NVIDIA graphics card for playback. When I 'config' LAV codec, under H264 (running as Admin) and select NVIDIA CUVID it shows Not available to the right... and well as Active Decoder being <inactive>. I tried installing newest NVIDIA Drivers and have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460SE card... Also tried without x64, and with... See Below. How do I enable hardware acceleration for NVIDIA? ![]() Thanks! |

I have a NVIDIA Card, Quad Core Processor, mostly watch from my XBox Media Center Extenders(2 in house)? I am inclined to select something with hardware decoding. Lav -> DXVA2(native)? Sounds funny but smooth FFWD is what I am looking for(may be too specific a request).. Also, what settings for the H264 tab seen below? Thanks...

RE: Windows 8 Setup w/x64 and NVIDIA CUVID Lav
IF you have a need for subtitles, you need to select the Microsoft decoder for H264
forget hardware acceleration - what did you buy that quad core for? a chasis ornament? use the damn thing. For the xbox, on the MKV TAB, you need to uncheck the DivX MF splitter |

Of note, when I check and then uncheck the disable DivX MF splitter, H264 reverts to FFDshow with multithreading, Do not use MPC-HC codec, and Use MS codec for DS Players...... Different from SUGGESTED settings. For my setup, 64bit, Quad Core, NVIDIA, Xboxes, which did you intend on H264 tab SUGGESTED or what defaults after selecting and unselecting DMF splitter? And do I make a change in x64 settings first, then 32bit settings, (both under Admin Privledge) and then without Admin Privledge? Or does 64 bit take precedence and don't touch 32bit? Those are my last questions however you respond and thanks greatly for your work and response for this free product! |

So, making the DivX MF splitter active automatically sets the Microsoft H264 decoder to active. Or does 64 bit take precedence and don't touch 32bit? The Without Admin settings are for Audio settings only. An Admin may use headpnones. His son, setup as another user of the PC may use bitstreaming to an AVR where-as his daulghter, another user, may be OK with a 2.0 speakers built into the monitor. The app will maintain audio settings different for all users of the PC. The 32bit app only affects playback in 32bir players. The default WMP is 32bit. Most other players are also 32bit. Media Center is 64bit and the xbox uses MC so for it to work properly, the 64bit app needs the correct settings as outlined above. I hope I have been clear. I know it can be confusing. |
