RE: cannot play DVD file
Hi guys, I have the same problem.
In my opinion the problem comes not from file extensions because I can play dvd by clicking any file in VIDEO_TS folder of DVD in explorer. The problem appears in the situation when system tries to play dvd using autoplay or when you try to play dvd by right clicking DVD icon in MyComputer window and choosing Play menu item. Then you get a system message "An application cannot be found" - or something like that, it is translated, I have non English version of Win7. Probably the system is trying to play dvd with it's default player but the player cannot be found. I have disabled WMP12 and Windows Foundation, and I am using KMPLayer as a default player. To be precise my configuration is: Win7Codecs configured to play everything with ffdshow + KMPlayer configured to play everything using default codecs (ffdshow) + of course ffdshow with all it's codecs enabled. It works perfect besides the case being described. Anyway I was able to play dvds using PDVD12 codec checked in SWAP tab roughly before installing v.3.6.4. of Shark - probably, it can be also a coincidence. I was fighting over two hours with many settings available for the user using Control Panel and Programs options, I was logging off, restarting etc., but with no effect. Of course I have set the KMPLayer to be a default player for the dvds. I came to the conclusion that there must be a register key telling a system what to do when a dvd is to be play NOT BY FILE EXTENSIONS but by the fact it is in the bay. Anyone knows how to fix it? It's me again, the same guy as above. I have just used Microsoft's tool for fixing dvd problems which is here http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd...lems/en-us but it hadn't found any problem. And I'am stil not able to read dvd. Help... |

RE: cannot play DVD file
I FOUND !!! The registry value responsible for which application will play dvd is:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\DVD\shell\play\command" In my case - I use KMplayer - the string value of the key should be: "C:\Program Files\The KMPlayer\kmplayer.exe" /dvd If you use some other player you'll have to use full path to your player .exe file and appropriate switch for playing dvd. You can try /dvd as I did or look in the command line reference of your player. The reason of the error was WMP12's value left in the registry key, which - the WMP12 - was disabled by me together with Media Foundation. System was trying to play dvd with WMP12 but was not able to access it. It should have been necessary to replace WMP12's key value to the KMplayer's one. The above fix resolved problem in my case and now I can watch dvds with all settings made in ffdshow especially subtitles, sharpness and motion blur. The quality is perfect and every video material being played on my laptop looks pretty the same !!! - depending on resolution of course.I hope it helped somebody. |

RE: cannot play DVD file
Only with MS decoder under "SWAP" DVDs and DVD structures in MC7 and WMP 12 will play and MC7 Live-TV in HD works fine.
In MC7 x86 (Windows 7 32 Bit) also the PowerDVD 12 video decoder can be used for MC7 Live-TV ("SWAP -> Disable Microsoft's Video Decoder" and "SWAP -> ALT support for LiveTV"), but then you can't play DVDs and DVD structures in WMP12 and MC7. With my settings with PowerDVD 12 video decoder you can play again DVDs and DVD structures in MC7 x86 (with FFDshow decoder!), but not in WMP 12 and also HD live TV works without problems!
