new audio card (having issues with 5.1)
I'm having issues receiving 5.1 audio through video files only. Audio and video games both have 5.1 audio working correctly.
I tried resetting to default settings and I noticed that the audio defaults to 2 speakers, instead of 5.1. I'm assuming this is part of the reason, because if I change the speakers to 5.1, it still doesn't work. I checked out the 5.1 audio thread that is stickied, and none of the suggestions in that thread worked for me. |

When you press [Reset All] the speaker setting of the Audio TAB detects what is setup in Control Panel | Sound under your active device. If my app is defaulting to stereo, you must also have stereo setup in Control Panel. |

It's setup as 5.1 in my control panel. I downloaded VLC and 5.1 works in that as well. So, definitely something is up, because 5.1 works in VLC, Foobar, and in games. |

RE: new audio card (having issues with 5.1)
maybe you need to disable the motherboard onboard audio in the BIOS to force Windows to use your addon card.

It's weird because my previous 5.1 card worked just fine, it was a sound blaster though, my current 5.1 card is a Xonar DG. Thanks for the help. EDIT: Didn't work. I set up my speakers as 7.1 just to test if the config would recognize them as 7.1, and it did (rear audio still did not work though). I'm not sure why it won't recognize it as 5.1. I'm going to try moving the audio card to my other PCI slot tomorrow. It's currently in the same slot my old audio card was in. Maybe that will magically fix it. I'll update whether or not it does. |

Use the button on the Misc TAB to [Analyze a media file] to know the contents of the file you are using for testing. (but that doesnt explain why 5.1 set in control panel isnt being detected by my app) |

RE: new audio card (having issues with 5.1)
It's still not working after moving the card to another PCI slot, the shark007 config still sets the speakers to 2. I've been using your software for a long time, and it detected my sound blaster 5.1 card just fine, not sure if it just hates xonar dg or what.
Appreciate the help, I'll just use VLC, and keep shark007 installed for the thumbnailing. |

I thought I would let you know for future reference that I found a workaround for my issue, and 5.1 is now working. What I had to do is enable AC3Filter in 32 bit and 64 bit, and I changed the output format to 5.1 in the AC3Filter preferences. I also manually changed the speaker configuration to 5.1 under the audio tab for both 32 bit and 64 bit. |
