subtitle rendering via ffdshow
I'm stumped and tried to google for it, but couldn't find any leads. So here's the problem I'm having.
I have a mkv file that has a certain section where subtitle texts are rendered on top (romanized japanese), bottom (translation), and side (japanese text). The top and bottom renders fine but the side isn't. I've tried various settings but I could not get it to work. At first, the side text appear garbled and weird. However, when going into ffdshow's properties and going into ASS/SSA config dialog, I checked the "Maintain outside text inside the picture" box and that partially fixes it. The leftover issue is that the text is rendered and legible but the text is now 90 degrees rotated counterclockwise. I can't find the setting to really get this fixed or resolved. If I used MPC-HC's internal subtitle renderer, it works fine and displays all the text correctly. But if I use ffdshow, it doesn't. Has anyone been able to encounter this and got it resolved? Or is it something completely mysterious to you guys? |

RE: subtitle rendering via ffdshow
Hmm... tried but no progress made. I forgot to post additional details about the problem.
Currently running on Win7 x64 Ultimate, using MPC-HC x64 for primary playback. The ffdshow seems to render everything except for the Japanese text just fine so I cannot figure out how to get it working. Playback via WMP 32bit seems fine at default settings (which was using MS's h264 decoder w/ vobsub for subtitle rendering). It's a bit of a minor setback for me as I prefer to use MPC-HC as the primary media player. I followed the link to the thread and did as instructed, sans the Media Control plugin, which I assume is for WMC in general? I don't have intentions on viewing my mkv files through that at the moment. But would like to see if there's a way to solve this. Still baffled by my situation. |

RE: subtitle rendering via ffdshow
Stop using MPC-HC x64. You're only complicating things. There is absolutely no avantage, in fact there are MANY disadvantages to using the x64 version. The x64 codecs are no where near as good as their 32bit counterparts.
Next, use MPC-HC (32bit) from my tools page and most likely your problems will be solved. MPC-HC uses its own internal subtitle renderer. It is better than both DiredctVobSob and FFDshow. The versions on my tools page are preconfigured to use my codecs. If UAC is turned OFF, please uninstall my software
