vista codec pack 5.5.4
I installed the vista codec pack 5.5.4 today, it has messed with my realplayer and a few other things. I want to know how to uninstall it. Can anyone help?! I understand I had to custom install it but I didn't know how. I want to install it again if someone can tell me what to do for a custom installation for realplayer...

RE: vista codec pack 5.5.4
Hi Lauryn, and welcome to handholding 101... Once i'm done with class, and before dismissal, I'll get to the un-installation, but 1st, lets address your real problem. I'll assume you eyesight is good, and that you can read and understand english since you were able to ask for help. When executing the installer, the 1st thing you see is a language selection box. Its a good thing that it doesnt default to chinese huh?
After getting past that innitial introduction to the installer you get a small explaination of what you are about to install. The 3rd screen presented to you has some bright red text on it so that users with less than 20/20 vision can still pick up on the fact the the auther thinks this is important and wants you to actually read what he\she placed in front of your eyes. I'm guessing that this screen flew past you so fast, it was like a lightening bolt or something, and you missed it all together. But wait, thats not possible because you did manage to actually find the 'I accept' dialog at the bottom of that screen. The next screen must have also have been travelling at light speed because you state you have no idea how to do a custom installation. I suppose the word 'Custom' being only in black bold text wasnt good enough. It should have been bright red. Oh wait, we already established that red text isnt good enough since you missed it on the earlier screen. This is all starting to remind me about leading a horse to water... wait, thats another class, lets get back on topic. This last screenshot is what you would see if you had actually selected to Custom install. Please do not be afraid of all those options. Just scroll the window down a bit so you can see the Realmedia components. Clicking on that selection will allow you to disable its installation by placing a red x on it as depicted above. I realize red is not your favorite color, but after a few more dates I'm sure I will figure it out and consider changing the text to something more eye-catching so you can be interested in reading it. Now that we've spent some time together I'm guessing you want me to meet your mom but class isn't over yet. We still need to deal with the issue at hand of you screwing up your realplayer installation due to your clicky finger hitting next, next, next without bothering to read all the absolutely brilliant text the installer was trying to get you to read to save you having this problem in the 1st place. Go to the start button and find and select 'Control Panel'. From the control panel you will need to find sonething called 'Programs and Features'. Click that. In the next window presented to you, scroll down until you see, Vista Codec package, select it, and choose Uninstall. Next, repeat this instruction and uninstall realplayer. You are now ready to re-install your software. I think I am going to pass on meeting your mom for now until we've had a few more dates because i'm not so sure that you are the right one for me yet. Please do not take offense to my humorous approach to assisting you correct the problems you caused. I am a software programmer. I don't get out all that much, and occassionally need to create my own fun. Once again, I hope I at least made you smile, and in no way did I intend to be-little you. If UAC is turned OFF, please uninstall my software
Default UAC settings are required for my software to function properly |
