Thumbnail problems? Go to the Config TAB (of the 64bit app if you have 64bit)
click the button for [Icaros Thumbnailing] and press [Deactivate Icaros] and subsequently press, [Activate Icaros]

If you used an UPGRADE INSTALL and are experiencing problems, use the UNINSTALL button on the Help TAB and re-install the codecs.
The instruction below ASSUMES that you are using current releases from the links below
(although upgrades are enabled, please do a clean installation
)

Here are download links to the only authorized [Image: 80726481.jpg] @MajorGeeks:

32bit Win7codecs
(Aprox. 28MB)
x64Components addon (Aprox. 18MB)
Install the 32bit version 1st - the x64Components rely on the presense of the 32bit installation

The Windows 8 Codecs (32 and 64bit) are stripped down versions of the Win7codecs and the majority of these instructions apply to those releases also. Haali, FFDshow and the Gabest filters are removed from the Windows 8 Codec releases. The Windows 8 Codecs are also compatible with all versions of Windows 7. If you need a feature such as Haali to be able to handle multiple audio tracks within an AVI or MKV file, you can install the Win7codecs onto any Windows 8 system instead to give you more decoder chain options to choose from.

32bit Windows 8 Codecs (Aprox. 15.5MB)
64bit Windows 8 Codecs addon (Aprox. 9.5MB)
Install the 32bit version 1st - the 64bit release relies on the presense of the 32bit installation

If you have any suggestions for additional information for this page, please let me know on the forum.

64bit users, please remember to uninstall the x64Components BEFORE uninstalling the 32bit codecs.
If you forgot this sequence; install the newer 32bit release and then afterwards, you can uninstall the x64Components addon.

If you changed any settings for testing purposes and find yourself broken,
you can always return to this point of these instructions by using the [Reset All] button in the lower left of the application.

check the box at the bottom for [x] SUGGESTED settings. (Do the same in the 64bit Application.)
The above configuration will play most files with subtitles in both WMP and Media Center.

For solutions to specific playback problems that you MAY encounter . . . Continue reading . . .

3GP files have no audio? disable the DMO codecs on the SWAP TAB
be aware that disabling the DMO Codecs can remove the 'PlayTo' feature from filetypes such as AVI

To playback MKV's with *.srt subtitles in the Windows players, select the [x] SUGGESTED settings checkbox.
*.sub style subtitle files current do not work properly.

If an MP4 file fails to play properly on Windows 7, (subtitles?) choose to disable the Microsoft Audio decoder on the SWAP TAB
If MP4 problems persist or you are using Windows 8, it is also helpful to disable the Microsoft Video decoder

If Media Center is being difficult, disable the Microsoft Video decoder on the SWAP TAB.

To access Subtitle controls, while a video is playing, right click either the green VobSub systray icon or the ffdshow icon.
To completely disable Subtitles, make that selection in the upper right of the Config TAB. (This will auto-change with H264 TAB changes)

To access multiple Audio tracks, you must 1st set Haali as the splitter for that filetype.
Then rightclick the Haali (whitish) systray icon to select your preferred track.

For improved AVI playback, disable the DMO codecs on the SWAP TAB (and select FFDshow for MP2/3 if required).
If you need subtitles, get srt type of files
be aware that disabling the DMO Codecs can remove the 'PlayTo' feature from filetypes such as AVI

The MOV format uses a wide range of depricated codecs.
If MOV playback fails you, the 1st thing to try is using the [Reset All] button. Test.
If you are still having trouble with a MOV file, try a different splitter from the MOV~OGG TAB
Still a problem?, get Metafox from my Tools page and use it to create an MKV from that MOV file

It is imperitive that you disable Media Foundation on the SWAP TAB for proper M2TS playback.
If any TS derivitives such as M2TS, MTS have no audio, Disable the Microsoft Audio decoder on the SWAP TAB
If you are still having trouble with a TS file, disable the Microsoft Video decoder on the SWAP TAB also.

To bitstream HD audio formats, you MUST connect the PC directly to the AVR with a HDMI cable.

Do Not make a selection in the leftside column for speaker selection - it is fully automated.
Also under your device in Control Panel | Sound, [your active device]
Highlight your active device and click the [Configure] button --> set your proper speaker count
properties --> Advanced, the 2 exclusive mode boxes need to be checked.

Do you have WAV file that will not play? Try changing .wav to .dts
If you are having any other Audio issues not covered above, disable the Microsoft Audio decoder on the SWAP TAB.

Please know, the 64bit app controls playback in Media Center on 64bit Operating Systems
The 32bit app controls most other players such as the default WMP on any system

If you want to use any of the PDVD12 options such as 'ALT support for LiveTV' in the Settings Application
go to THIS POST to learn how to make the PDVD12 decoders available for use.

Here are some hardware accelerated decoders for specific GPU's that use hardware acceleration.
These decoders are of specific interest to those with older computers where the cpu would have difficulty keeping up.

Nvidia users can open the LAV video Configuration from the H264 TAB - in the upper right under Hardware Acceleration, change None to CUVID

Intel CPU/GPU users can select 'Use FFDshow's codec' on the H264 TAB, and then go to the Config TAB,
use the button for [FFDShow Video config], click on the word 'libavcodec' next to H264/AVC and select Intel QuickSync
Or
users can open the LAV video Configuration from the H264 TAB - in the upper right under Hardware Acceleration, change None to Intel QuickSync

Most other GPU's can use any DXVA enabled H264 decoder from the H264 TAB if they want to use hardware acceleration.
Or
If LAV is selected for H264, you can enter its [config] and in the upper right, select a DXVA2 decoder (native is prefered)
