RE: About Icaros - Zyw - 04-03-2012 10:43 AM +1 for using matroska cover for thumbnails. It's the way it's meant to be used and it's already been implemented for mp4, so why not support it if it's not too much problem? (it should be much easier and less buggy than decoding a video stream and capture a frame) Take for example matroska tags: a very powerful and flexible feature, but there's not a single program capable of reading them, and not even a single program to edit them. You can write them manually only to discover that all mediacenters out there must try to scrape the net for information that are already there. Many advanced mkv features are currently not used because no program supports them... and if there's no way to use them, nobody will. And if nobody uses them, no one will write tools to take advantage of them. It's a vicious circle that must be broken somehow

Trying to thumbnail a file that is being downloaded or copied can lead to unexpected/bad results. But does explorer "try again" after a while when thumbnailing fails? Icaros' behavior in this situation is identical to what Windows itself would do for a format it supported natively. I don't think so. explorer.exe doesn't consume all cpu power and it gives up at some with such avi files. still there are some cases that you have to terminate explorer.exe. but icaros uses all cpu resources and never gives up. i have tries this several times. even the latest icaros behaves like this. Also it doesn't mean that microsoft's way is the best way. You shouldn't limit yourself with it. The difference is that avi (xvid) isn't a complex codec and so doesn't require much resource unlike h264/x264. Trying to decode an invalid/incomplete file is meaningless. when a such file is taken, icaros should give a black thumbnail or nothing at all and skip that. With a 50MB video file, you can see from taskmanager that explorer.exe reads tons of megabytes for it until you forcefully terminate explorer. there is definitely something wrong here. if this is microsoft's behavior than this is also wrong. They have done lots of stupid things and this is among them. RE: About Icaros - HD-False - 04-05-2012 02:54 PM Icaros 2.0 also shows no new WTV thumbs in MC7, after the PowerDVD 12 video decoder is activated! Have you tried adding WTV to the alternate file extensions list within the [Icaros Thumbnailing] button on thr Config TAB? To do so, Deactivate Icaros, add .wtv; and Activate it again. RE: About Icaros - BitTech - 04-05-2012 03:20 PM @cengizhan If you could upload one more more of such files for Xanashi, then maybe he can fix it. |
