WMC and ActiveX webpage creates the error "Can not open the file" - ChristheRED - 01-28-2012 10:53 PM I came across this error when running duel monitors. The secondary was using IE running an activeX based webcam. If I open the IEwebcam and then WMC everything is fine if I watch a single show/file. If I switch to a new show I get the "Can not open the file Windows Media Center can not open the file" error. I'm assuming the activeX interferes with the codec. I've recreated the error using Google Chrome's IEtab as well. My solutions are to reset the codec via the awesome Shark007 program or to log off/on. RE: WMC and ActiveX webpage creates the error "Can not open the file" - Shark007 - 01-29-2012 07:42 AM choosing to disable UAC can cause weird things to occur. This statement not only applies to my codecs, but to your entire system. Is UAC disabled? If so . . . Uninstall the codecs, set UAC to the 'Default' setting and reboot your computer. re-install the codecs - rightclick the settings application shortcut and choose, Run as Administrator [attachment=1251] RE: WMC and ActiveX webpage creates the error "Can not open the file" - ChristheRED - 01-30-2012 08:16 PM Thanks for the reply, UAC is set to default. I came across another thread for the same error message and followed your recommendations. I also tested a few other methods of running the webcam and came up with a videostream.cgi thru google chrome that did not cause the error message. It may be a WMC problem that it doesn't like having to share the activeX controls. My solution has been to only run one or the other and everything works fine. |
