I have a problem where I install MPC-BE under one admin user, and then the other user (also admin) it won't play in HDR, including the auto-switch to HDR.  This is with an HDMI 2.1 TV and Nvidia 3080.  This setup does support HDR.

Previously I just re-installed MPC-BE for the second user and it played and auto-switched HDR. Version 1.6.0.6729.

Any ideas?

I can confirm the issue and am investigating the problem.

After extensive testing, the problem is only with an up to date release version of Windows 11
It works as expected in all versions Windows 10 and it also works in the DEV release of Windows 11.
I think we'll have to wait for a solution from Microsoft in their next update.

I have informed the MPC-BE developer's of my findings.

EDIT:  this issue is related to the latest AMD drivers and if you roll back to WHQL drivers it fixes the issue.

In the meantime, you can use Windows Media Player for HDR playback until a solution is available.

Thanks for checking.  I am having this problem with Windows 10 Pro 21H2 19044.1387. Windows Media Player says it cannot play the file, it is missing the codec.  VLC player does fine, though.  This is an HDR10 file, Samsung's version of HDR from a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra phone.

I will need a sample file to provide any further feedback.

Sorry for the delayed response, apparently this forum doesn't notify me (despite promising to).  Where should I send the video file, presumably too large for email?

HERE is a simple tool that will allow you to cut a sample file from a much larger file.
Test the sample to be sure it has the issue just like the source file has.
Upload that sample to a free file server such as sendspace and post the download url here.
If you wish to maintain anonymity, you can send the download link to me in a private message.

Also be sure to be using the latest offering of MPC-BE from my Tools page.
Possibly your issue has been corrected in the MPC Video Renderer which I keep up to date in my distribution.

One last thing is to test the file in WMP because it uses its own renderer for HDR playback.

This appears to have been fixed between version 1.6.0.6729 when I posted and the latest 1.6.0.6761.  Thanks!  I do have a short video clip I can send, but that seems unnecessary at this point.
