Firefox issue playing videos

#1
Hi,

After ticking the checkbox "WMP suggested settings" Firefox starts having issues playing videos. The error message on Firefox is generic, just says the video can't be played.

YouTube is not the only site with this problem, that's just an easy example.
I read that ticking that checkbox will cause problems with the Windows Store, and the Movies and TV program, but I didn't expect to have issues with Firefox. I have used SharkCodecs for years before, and it used to work fine.

Is this expected behaviour? Is it a bug?
Is there a way to play all files with Windows Media Player, and have Firefox working normally at the same time?

Some info:
Shark 007 Codecs version 20.04 Portable
Windows 10 64 bits
Firefox 128.0.7esr

Is this expected behaviour? Is it a bug?

Is there a way to play all files with Windows Media Player, and have Firefox working normally at the same time?

It is expected behavior.
You will need to uncheck the box to use Media Foundation.

Have you tried using the MCI Player available on the Misc TAB?
You can use this player without disabling Media Foundation.
This player is also part of the Windows distribution. I just provide easy access to it.

Pressing F1 during playback will bring up a list of controls available.

Is there a configuration in settings of Shark007 to disabled Media Foundation? I looked for a check box that could look like "Use Media Foundation" but didn't find one?
Or do you mean disable Media Foundation in Firefox?

I didn't know about MCI, thanks for the tip.

In the above post.
1. "disabled Media Foundation" = select [x] WMP suggested settings
2. " Use Media Foundation" = uncheck  [x] WMP suggested settings

Didn't understand as WMP suggested settings being tied directly to that.
Is there a way to use WMP to play all media files, and not break down Firefox video playback?

The current state of Media Foundation development, a Microsoft supported product, is not capable of playing all of your files.
Therefore, to play them all in WMP, Mediafoundation must be broken to force WMP to use Directshow Codecs.

Breaking Mediafoundation also breaks all web browsers.
