2 of 2 Possible Bugs...?

#1
Hello:

Here are the details on the 2nd possible bug, mentioned previously in my other post.  I've included my machine and setup info in that other post as well.

I've given you as much information as I can find - anything else, please let me know.  NOTE:  I’m running your latest version now for several days, and I have not seen this issue.  If it occurs again, I’ll keep you posted.

Let me know your thoughts.  Thanks, Matt.

Possible Bug #2:

This bug has happened a couple times in the last month.  The most recent happened around April 5th.  I was NOT running your latest release at the time, so, maybe this has been fixed.  This happens without the interface open, just running in the background as Icaros is suppose.  At some point I noticed that the thumbnails being viewed are not what I have seen in the past by Icaros.  Digging a little deeper into this, and upon opening Icaros (going to Cache Tab), I noticed that the # of entries and the size of the database are not what I was expecting (For the number of Entries, the Database size was in the GBs, not MBs as shown in the screen shot).  Not sure by what process or mechanism, but it would seem as though the database was wiped out.

Since I didn’t have an idea of when this “wipe” happened, I looked at the timestamps associated with the Icaros DB files, and noted that previous time the application either updated or accessed those files (in this case, it was about 4 or 5 days prior – which I’m assuming means that Icaros really had not been “functional” since that time).  So, based on that date, I peeled through the Event Log on that day, and located 3 entries for that day/time:  1 Error followed by 2 informational.  No DMP file was generated for this same time.  Which I guess would mean that whatever is occurring it must be terminating Icaros before it can create the DMP file.

With Icaros running in that same state (with the disproportionate #entries/Database Size, I ran several tests with Icaros to see if it would build upon those number, or if it was in a hung state.  Nothing I did made any difference resolve the current hung state since.  My solution was to uninstall Icaros completely, then reinstall it.

04/14/2021 UPDATE: The "wipe" of the database just occurred in the latest release as well.  Again, no DMP file created, and it looks as though the latest entry in the Windows Logs would be the same error indicated below, no other warnings. The entries is about 18,000 but the database size is down to 10 MB.  This time I pulled up Icaros, and did a few tests.  It seems as though Icaros is still generating thumbnails when I activate/deactivate them.  But the cache files don't appear to be updating, even when set to dynamic (cleared window cache before testing).  So I would guess that Icaros is now regenerating the thumbnails every time, since it can not use the cache.  Hope this helps. Thanks.

3 Entries in the Event Log - 1 error followed by 2 Warnings:

Hi Mrantz,

So looking at both your posts, both issues/bugs seem to be related.
Both are caused by the Icaros Cache, and I'm fairly sure it has to do with a bug when the cache reaches sizes above 4GB.
I'm currently working on a fix for this, so hopefully both your issues will be solved with the next release.

I will let you know when the next release is ready.

(04-17-2021, 07:06 AM)Hello Xanashi - Thank you for yet another great release !!!!Been running 3.2.1 FINAL.  1) The Cache > 4 MB fix that you have put in seems to be working just fine.   I'm at 4.14 MB so far, and no crashes and no resets.  2) WOW - The thumbnail retrieval seems to be WAY FASTER !!!  I use Search Everything for quick indexing of files.  I have a lot of bookmarks set for certain searches that I do often.  It used to take a few seconds at least when I would pull up a bookmark for the thumbnails to display.  Now, the thumbnails are displayed almost instantly !!Anything else comes up I'll let you know, otherwise, looks great so far !!!!!Thanks,Matt R.Xanashi Wrote: Hi Mrantz,
