No thumbnails for .vid files

#1
Hi,

Recently I downloaded a .vid file and don't get thumbnail for it.
I turned thumbnailing and properties off and back, reset Icaros, and typed manually vid in the custom list of file types. Earlier one of these helped with new file types. Now none. How to add .vid?
Thanks a lot.

.vid is not supported because it is not a real video extension.
You best and easiest solution id to go to my Tools page and grab Metafox.
Metafox is created by the same developer as Icaros.

1st, change .vid to MP4 so Metafox will recognize the file as a video.
Once Metafox is installed, simply drag n drop your file onto the Metafox Desktop shortcut.
Metafox will extract the components of the file and place them into a MKV file.

Thank you.
After I changed the extension to mp4 I can play the file, and also the thumbnail appears.
Why should I do anything else?

Because you could have made it any proper video extension, such as MOV and it would work.
If you use Metafox (which is very fast too), it would create a real MKV and the extension would then be proper also.
To add, MKV is better at other things, such as seeking through the file.

Thanks I see now and will do so.
