Not launching after changing install location...

#1
I've been using the 64-bit portable codecs for quite a while and recently I've had to change the installation location to another fastest drive (actually, an NVMe) and while I followed the instruction to remove the codecs using the button on the Help tab, whenever I try to run them from the new location I always get the "You must maintain the original file and folder structure!" warning dialogue, and the setup never starts.

Any ideas?

Delete all existing Shark007Codecs folders.
Get a new codec package HERE
Extract it / move it to where ever you want.

Run the Launher64.exe
Just in case an old ini file was still present, I suggest pressing [RESSET ALL] as you 1st action.

Sorry for the late reply, but I could only get online until today.

I tried doing this, but to no avail. The message keeps showing up after opening both the launcher and the .exe directly from the new install location. I've followed the instructions many times already, even restarting my PC, but it still keeps showing up.

I had another user with this same issue and we solved it by setting the 64bit WMP as default 1st.
I've attached a file to this post that will do just that. [removed]
Try using Launcher64 after running the file, install.cmd.

If that works, be sure to use [RESET ALL] as your 1st action.

If that does work for you, I've written some new code concerning rhis issue but its only availble through the AutoUpdate mechanism.

Once again, the message keeps pooping up. I tried to do this twice and after a rebooting.

Now, I tried to simply put the codecs folder into a different place now, directly into 'C:\Shark007Codecs', and the launcher/menu works now for some reason. It simply doesn't work on that one other folder where I was putting all of the portable tools and programs I must have on my PC ('C:\Portable\Tools \Shark007Codecs'). It also seems to be working on any other folder without issues (like in 'My Documents' folder). I should have tested some other folder first, I guess. My bad. And while it's weird that it doesn't run correctly on that one folder, I probably have something installed there that is messing around with the setup (mostly stuff related to games and a few apps like Kate, a FFmpeg parser and a few mod managers for games, like Vortex or the RE engine one).

Thanks for the help. While not a perfect solution, I will be able to keep using the codecs, player and icaros on the new storage device all the same. Thanks again.

I ran into the same situation today when I tried to install the code on my new computer. I put the zip into a custom path (D:\Tools) and the program just keeps saying "You must maintain the original file and folder structure!".
However, when I put the zip into Document or Download(CSmile, it works. It seems that the installation must be in the C drive or Windows pre-built folder.

On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of the new portable format. When I run Launcher64 and a window pops up, I'm not sure if the code has finished installing. Unlike the installer, I can confirm the installation progress and know that the code is now on my computer.

1. Only extract Allow.exe to the location where you intend to extract the Shark007Codecs folder.
2. Execute Allow.exe and It should respond with a message, "Extract the Shark007Codecs folder here."
3. After getting that message, Extract the Shark007Codecs folder to that location.

If you want to relocate the extracted location, you need to execute Allow.exe in the new location 1st.
Once in the new location, use [RESET ALL] to setup the registry to use the new location.

Everything will work after following the above instruction.

I followed the instructions and ran the "Allow" program first and it also displays a message telling you to extract the code here. But it just doesn't work with my custom paths. I put it into C Drive, "Download" and "Document" are both work.

"You must maintain the original file and folder structure!".
The above statement means that Windows Defender deleted files during the copy process.

Allow.exe only protects the  .\Shark007Codecs folder where .\ is anywhere on your system.

Allow.exe reads the current location of Allow.exe, then appends \Shark007Codecs to the end of that path and blocks that from Windows Defender.
